Stupid Prices

On E-bay now with 4 hours to go , ITALERI Chevrolet 15 cwt Truck 1/35 currently at £77.00 (aproximately $148.00) how mad is that!

for an Italeri kit, none the less. Insane

Stupid prices or stupid people…?
I didn’t reallize that kits like that could go up that far.

It’s only money… tee hee

What amazes me too is how people will bid way more for a kit on e-bay than it would cost to just go pick up the kit at the hobby store?!? Doesn’t make any sense… [:0]

It’s a discontinued kit isn’t it?

Yeah some of those bidding prices are insane. I think people get caught up in the excitement and just lose all train of thought. I just put in a max bid and if someone beats it than my hats off to them. I won’t pay more than an online store for an ebay bid.

Go figure? It’s amazing what people will pay. I think there is a type of mental disorder called “e-bayitis” I almost contracted it when bidding on some rechageable batterries.I got caught up in the bidding before I realized i could go to Walmart and get 2 sets for what we were bidding!![%-)]

I have to agree with zokissima. It is not the prices that are crazy, but the people paying that much for a kit, out of production or not. What is even more crazy are people who pay the huge prices for “Collector’s Item” kits that they have no intention of ever building. That just doesn’t make any sense to me.

Strange… It seems to be at £6, not £77 (which is a reasonable price - I’d buy it at that price if I saw
it at a show, though not on Ebay, as the P&P costs will probably put it between £8 and £10).

Also, it’s an Airfix kit, not an Italeri one. The old Airfix 1/32 military vehicle kits are quite collectable,
and the Chevrolet is one of the rarer ones.

Nevertheless, I agree entirely about silly prices on Ebay, particularly as a result of people getting
carried away!
It’s not just buyers though in some cases. I’ve also seen many new, in-production, easily available in shops kits
for sale (Buy It Now) at more than the shop cost - often several pounds more - once you add P&P.

EDIT: sorry, you’re right - that link was to another item. The £77 one is here -

Who in their right mind would pay -£77- (actually £80 if you include P&P) for a relatively recent Italeri kit? The thing is, for the price to go up that high, there must have been at least TWO people prepared to pay that much, or
close to it (due to the way Ebay’s bidding system works).

I should auction off old sprue and see what price I get

Ive got one of them upstares
now if theres 2 willing to pay that price?

Heck it isn’t even the original Peerless Max boxing. At least that kit would have some value to a collector. This kit is about 40 some odd years old.

So it finally sold for £77.00 + £3.25 postage ($154.32) , I hope the buyer gets his moneys worth of pleasure from it, I think i’ll go into business and sell my version.

VERY strange!

Another kit…Same 2 bidders…same seller…exact same price!

Something funny going on there me thinks!
