To say that this is “just” a model is an injustice! The detail, paint, and realistic weathering (just enough, not too much) are superb. Given the right background and lighting, one would be hard pressed to tell whether or not it was a kit or the real thing (IMHO)!
I have an 1/48 Academy Ju-87G on the shelf and I hope it turns out 1/8th as well as yours.
I would have to say that the best looking stuka I’ve seen ever. Like the others said that weathering and finish work are excellent. It looks very much life like. The decal weathering and how you blended in the camo is best I have seen in quite a while.
Truly an AMAZING job on the build, detail, weathering, etc etc. I have to say that is the best looking Stuka I have ever seen. Care to share your weathering techniques? I am especially interested in the dry, dusty look you put on. And the exhaust, perfect. [bow] [bow] [bow]
Wow!! thanks for all the kind words fellas. I’m glad you like my Stuka.
Daywalker, although I did use some pastels here and there, most of the weathering including the exhaust stains was applied with the airbrush. I used Floquil grimy black, burnt umber, raw umber, burnt sienna, and grime. The markings I chose depicts the aircraft Rudel intentionally crashed when he surrendered to the allies, and photos show a very weary and dirty airframe.
Jerry, one of the air museum in the London area called…they want their Stuka back now.
Ohh, man! Another jaw-dropping stunner. The weathering is absolutely perfect, and gives a very realistic effect. That’s got to be enormous in 1/32. Thank you for sharing our work with us here. Your skills are only equalled by your character…it’s great to have such a talented builder here in these forums who is just “one of the guys”…Great build.
Jerry,
Whoa, man…are you happy with that, or WHAT? That’s a lovely job, mate. Lovely pics, too.
My only comment would be to flatten the tires just a teeny bit - not bulged - just flatten them a little - looks more realistic that way - probably a little late, now.
Other than for that tiny, petty, insignificant whine, I’d say your model is about as good as it gets - excellent, clean construction - fantastic paintwork, great detailing, beautiful weathering (not too little, not too much)…you certainly nailed this one.
Can’t wait to see pics of your next project.
Fantastic build.[bow][bow][bow] Thanks for giving us those great pics to drool over. Best tankbuster I’ve ever seen. Think I’ll take mine and hide it somewhere. Keep up the great work and the pics to go with it.
Thanks one and all, the compliments are greatly appreciated.
Lee tree…that’s a great idea to flatten the tires. You’re right…looking at the pics it’s evident they don’t look right. Maybe I’ll try the hot iron trick.
Nice one Jerry! Any plans to go with a contest on this one? The IPMS Regionals are in Pittsburgh next week. There still may be enough ime t ener and i is just a quick hop down the turnpike.
Not sure I can add anything to what’s already been said, Jerry. Your work is truly inspiring, and has shown me that I’ve still got a long way to go and a lot to learn about this amazing hobby. To me, you have reached a skill level that few do, and it’s a real treat for me to see such quality modeling.
Stunning work, Jerry; you really did a fabulous job on every aspect of the build! What did you think of White Ensign paints? I tried them on my last build and was very impressed. If they were more readily available (for me), they would be my paints of choice.
Thanks Marc! Interesting you ask about WEM paint. Everything I’ve heard about this product has been positive to say the least. The colors are supposedly well researched. However, the RLM colors I used, when compared to Model Master, are quite different. Particularly RLM 71. Looks a little brown to me. Nonetheless, that’s what i used and it is what it is. I’m going to use WEM paint on the big Tamiya Zero next and see how it looks. The paint is very thick in the tins, but thins well with laquer thinner. Sprays like a dream!! i don’t care for the tins however.
A truly outstanding job there Jerry. That JU-87 version with those wing carried cannons just looks so wicked! For me the best part of building any kit is the cockpit and you did a mighty fine job of it on this kit, should be a show stopper at any model contest! Guess I’m going have to add this kit to my ever growing wish list too.
