I’d like to add my two cents. Before the beginning of WW2 in Soviet Union was designed civil airplane, called “Stal 7”. It was developed by italian designer Bartini, who later was arrested. His works were implemented in long range bomber Er-2 (since it designed under command of Ermolaev). This bomber has inverted gullwing and was produced in significant quantities. Sadly, this very beautiful and unusual aircraft is almost forgotten, because of secrecy of these days (I’ve read, that crews vere regulary searched and all materials, regarding this bomber, vere confiscated and immediately destroyd). It’s career was plagued by engine troubles and lame operation planning - it was rarely used for the purpose it was designed - long range bombing. So the losses were high. However, Er-2 was the first soviet plane to bomb berlin at the outbreak of so-called great patriotic war.
As far, as I know, there is only one model of this plane, so in spite of poor quality, it’s the best one on today’s market
