does any body have this illustration of the Stug III g late with the tusks painted on the saukopf?
Other than the photo on page 44 of Sturmgeschutz III in Action and the color plate on page 77 of Walk Around Sturmgeschutz III Ausf G, I don’t think I have any other photos of these vehicles, and I have several books on just Sturmgeschutz. It would help if we knew which unit it was.
The later states these vehicles in question were produced after Zimmerit application had ended, for what that is worth…
See, i knew it has no zimm. What does the caption under the illustration say on page 77
“This late production StuG III Ausf.G (111) saw service in Russia during the late fall of 1944. The crew has painted the eyes, ears, and tusks of an elephant’s head on the Topfblende cast gun mantlet. Zimmerit was no longer applied to StuG III’s beginning in September of 1944.”
ill put this into the stug topic…
Ah, I can get away with no zim on my Stug G late. Excellent. I only know of the same picture as what you guys do.
Tiger. go to the topic titled Stug. Very interesting.[:D]
look in “Panzer Colors”
If you’re looking at the one on page 67 of volume one, that is a different one than the one Tankbuild is looking for.
Yes, the Panzer colours one has eyes and a mouth with teeth (and waffle pattern Zim). Tankbuild’s has eyes and just the boar’s tusks with slit mouth.
Can I ask where you found the decals for the tusks? I always liked that paintjob, but didn’t know they made decals. Thanks
heh, I used the opposite strategy…buit a very early StuH42 with the bolted armor to avoid having to do the zim…interesting the lengths we go to at times, eh? [:D]
Well, they dont make decals. i’m gonna hand paint them.
I would like to see pictures of that!
i think there were some in Italy or in one of the Concord books, ill have a look
heres a stug 3 with what some peaple refer to as a boar on the mantle

Nice photo Jon, but perhaps some clarifacation is needed here. Tankbuild121 is looking for shots of these particular vehicles;

CMK’s kit comes with a set of decals for it. $35.00 for the decals only…[V]
CMK use all the old Tamiya kits, i had the Ostwind
I never did the old Tamiya Stug. Is it bad or is it OK?
