Stug III G Wheels

Do the road wheels have a seam in the middle ? I saw in a photo that it looked like they did . OK second question if above is yes . Would they be mostly worn away , due to wear ? Ofcourse this is only with wheels with rubber , correct ? If yes , well then i have been removing them since i started modeling (lol) . I was thinking if they do have it , then i shall remove it due to track wear . I’ll keep them on the spare road wheels though .

I believe brand new wheels on the Mk III (StuG) and Mk IV chassis did have seam marks…I would guess that they wore away fairly quickly…

The rubber was vulcanized directly onto the rims so slight seams on brand new rubber wheels would be expected. Spare wheels you can get away with, but all vehicles before leaving the factory for issue to the depots were ‘test driven’ so any seams would’ve been very short lived and wouldn’t be something you’d expect to see on a vehicle in the field.

Great photo Kykeon…now imagine how those would look when scaled down to 1/35! [(-D]

That’s basically my point of not adding a caption to the photo. [;)]

There might be a seam, but it would be rather small and short lived…and not very big in 1/35th scale.

I did see a bit larger seam on brand-new wheels when I was at Munster though…

If it was a gate guard or brand new tank, a seam would be present. But with all the weathering being used to make the tank look as though it’s been out in service for a while, I’m sure the seam would wear off. Just like on a passenger car tire does.
