I have the Dragon/Cyberhobby reboxing of the Stug III C/D upgunned to 7.5 L48. I was wondering if anybody had any decent info on this version. From what I have found they were rare (considering there were only 200 C/D mades thats a gimme). Any information like dates or units would be spectacular.
From what I recall, there’s a single picture of this oddball. It was featured in Georges Bernage’s “The Panzers and the Battle for Normandy”. The pic was an ECPA find, I’m pretty sure (French archives).
It was definitely an oddball. I think it was overall dunkelgelb. No other examples are extant as far as I’m aware.
You, sir, are the owner of a model of a single vehicle. Gotta love Cyber Hobby!
The back-story on the upgunned C/D has to do with the standard practice of up-gunning vehicles sent back for factory-level repairs when possible and re-issuing them to the front. There’s no way to know how many others might have received the same up-gun treatment but photos of this particular up-gunned type are indeed rare as Roy mentions. [B] FWIW, I’ve got the original DML “Imperial Series” kit still in the stash and just have never gotten around to building it. [:O]
I built the old DML “Imperial Series” Stug III C model a while back. The only photo I got is one a friend sent me from a book. I don’t remember the title of the book but this is the photo:
And this is the model I made, completely out of the box:
I think that the 7.5 l/48 gun with Saukopf (Pigs Head) Mantlet was made for the Stug III G. If vehicles were being refitted, it is easy to believe that they would mount the Pigs head on a C or D model. [2cnts]
