Stug III at Pattons Museum

Hello,

Are there any kits in 1/35 scale that resemble the Stug III at the Patton s museum?

Thanks in advance,

George

The StuG III at Patton Museum is a late-model G with a saukopf mantlet. DML/ Cyber Hobby has a late “G”, and you can also use a standard "G: and just scavenge and use a saukopf mantlet from say, an older Tamiya StuG IV if you’re not a stickler for the smaller details in terms of absolute accuracy.

Here’s the Cyber Hobby one.

Which one?

Or

If I was going to build one of them, I’d go for the first one. She looks MEAN! (Albeit a bit too clean.)

The upper is a earlier regular mantlet, the lower is the late saukopf.

Isn’t the top one a StuH? with the 105mm gun.

The lower picture is the one I saw when I was there several years ago.I believe it was pulled from a river bed.

George

You are correct, but neither one is there any more. Literally no armor left inside the museum.

What is inside the building if there is no more armor? Is it outside?

George

The StuG III ausf G has a mixture of late features and mid to early ausf G production features. Most of the features on the hull show “late” production. However, missing on the roof is the armored deflector in front of the commander’s cupola. Perhaps the roof was a later switch from an earlier vehicle? Dunno. You’re better off looking for a contemporary pic and building a model to match that – rather than try to replicate a museum survivor. They can be iffy on authenticity sometimes.

Nothing but Patton’s Caddy, an old 3rd Army command Jeep he used and one of his pistols is basically all that’s left inside. Even that old deuce was removed. Maybe a handful of vehicles left outside, about a half dozen vehicles scattered around post. That’s about it.

Rob, don’t go and get me all weepy again. I can’t believe the Army of the United States ransacked the Patton Museum ! Hey, by the way, Have you ever run into Toby Martinez on the Gunnery range at Fort Knox. He did some shootin in the 1st armored cavalry in Bush Senior’s fight in Iraq. He’s a weapons contractor down there now. He’s quite a character. Rick

That’s what I thought too. Looks like a StuH to me although I’m still learning!

The first one, whatever it is, is a cracking looking piece with a great cammo scheme to boot.
