I was under the impression that the reason we haven’t see a Stryker model until now is because the government wanted model manufacturers to pay royalties in order to make models of the Stryker.
so did Trumpeter and Dragon pony up the money, or did the government ease up on this demand? I think a Stryker model is long overdue and I hope in the future, model manufacturers don’t have to go thru this each time a new military vehicle/plane, ship is introduced.
on another note, aren’t there many variants to the Stryker? I’ve seen on Military Channel where a Stryker was outfitted with a 120mm cannon?
I think it pertains more to armor models than aircraft. Models of the V-22, F-22, F-23, X-32, and X-35 were being molded long before any of those ever went (for the ones that did) into production even.
There isn’t a model out of say the LAV-300 (looks similar to LAV-25) which has been around for years primarily in foreign service but is still a mean looking little critter. Or the EFV (Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle, eventually will replace the AAV) which is an incredibly capable and flat out evil platform.
Who really knows, but now we have 3 coming out at roughly the same time, counting AFV Club into the mix. Along with the M2/M3 halftracks, us modelers have spoken and manufacturers are listening.
It wasn’t the government wanting royalties, but the companies that make the vehicles. There was recently a law passed that bans them from doing this. I think that is why we are now seeing the Strykers hit the market (soon I hope).
Yes, there are 10 different versions of the Stryker. One, the Mobile Gun System (MGS), mounts a 105mm cannon, not a 120mm.
Quoting Tigerman “Who really knows, but now we have 3 coming out at roughly the same time…”
In the UK, it’s because they are imitating buses… (2-3 at once…)
& they can’t be called Rapid Transport Vehicles… especially not the rapid bit… (g)
10 versions of the stryker… better start saving.
Wander if Rob G or Gino is going to be first out of the blocks with this one.

who cares, I mean the AIM was on the docet for AGES, and it made me super mad… but hey, the wait was more than worth it… I don’t think there’ll ever be a kit of the Abrams better than this… As for the Stryker, they can take all the time in the world so long as it is due to getting things “right”… I look forward to Dragon’s kit… yeah I know, I hate dragon, but after the Abrams, I’m in love again! LOL…
Curtis, Maple Leaf Models makes the conversions for it… buy them and keep the Canadian companies in business. There are conversions for Canadian stuff out there…
I understand your passion for Canadian content mate, I really do! I would like to see more, heck they make Korean tanks, why not Canadian stuff eh? However, the world over doesn’t recognize Canada as a military country. While I do believe we have some of the best trained troops in the world… we learn one shot one kill, while others learn there’s always more bullets. It’s sad to say that the government has killed any prospect of the world recognizing us enough to get models built up. Once we split from Britain as a colony in 1982. I’m not trying to rehash anything in the form of a debate with you or anyone about all of this, but, I do need to say it… They stryker is a killer model, and well, take more fun and scratchbuild some stuff to make it Canadian… I’d love to see a Coyote or Grizzly and the like on the market, but the plain truth is it’s not a big seller… just from looking at this forum, if it’s not a German WWII model, it get’s looked at, but no one comments! I could sit here and rant all day long about this, but no one is listening… It sucks Curt… but it’s the grimm reality of modelling!
I personally respect the Canadian military and I have always heard favorable things said about them from U.S. military officers and others. Lot’s of respect.
Canada may not come across to the world as a “military nation”, but that’s not a bad thing. Not at all. Glad to be neighbors and allies.
I am not slamming the Canadian military whatsoever!! this isn’t the thread for this discussion, but, I was just stating the views of the world according to me… lol… it’s not a lack of respect thing at all…
Oh, NO. I didn’t think you were slamming anybody. I was just giving you the views of an ex US Army tanker. Thought you might like to hear an outside opinion is all.
I have a lot of respect for Canadians. Military and civilians both. True allies and friends. Would love to learn more about their military through models myself.
I find it supremely ironic that while ranting about one stereotype and/or “lack of respect” you do the exact same thing to another genre/group. Plenty of forums on the 'net, some more specialized than others, and to make such a broad sweeping statement defies credibility, yet it’s always reached for as a handy club. No denying the popularity of WW2 German subjects but to say that’s all anyone on this forum is interested in simply because they don’t “comment” or do the rhetorical “nice job” doesn’t mean they aren’t interested. Post because you want to share, not because you’re looking for empty reply post padding as a sign of “interest”.
It would be nice to see the Canadian variants, but I’m happy that we finally get at least what appear to be accurate models, and a choice of which one we want as an extra.
my understanding is that there are problems with the 105mm variant of the stryker family. Perhaps with the Canadian involvement in Afganistan we will start to see models of some of the vehicles be deployed there like the anti mine vehicle and the coyote and others. Only time will tell but there are after market items that can be aquired to alter available models into canadian variants.
This may also be the reason that the CF is looking at buying the latest version of the leopard from countries that have to many in their stocks reportedly for possibly around $250000 per copy
With these kits coming out it opens the question of what aftermarket items will become available to make the different versions, maybe an interior kit, slat armor, etc.
