stripping paint off a model

I have a model where I paint part of the model wrong. Misread the instructions on painting. I know you can use oven cleaner or Wesley’s auto cleaner for fully painted models but how about just a top surface are of the model. Is there a way just to remove a specific area without dumping it into a pool of cleaner? The model is a Sci-Fi Babylon 5 Starfury and I was painting for the presidential escort. I got the color pattern screwy and wish to remove just the area where the decal goes. I used Tamiya paints and the painted model has been sitting for over a year. I think the paint is well dried by now, lol.

If they are Tamiya acrylics Windex will remove them quite readily. The problem is, there is not adequate way to protect the adjacent paint.

About the best you could do was to remove the paint on that surface.

But why not just paint over it?

I could paint over it but I do not want to get the coat to thick where it covers up details. I will look at it tonight and see if I can strip the whole thing without any problem.
