Street corner Finished

I thought I would post a few photos of a 1/24 work in progress. Its a street corner in Boston, Mass.

This is an overall view so that you can see the lay of the land:

Moving in closer

Details of the “Garden”

Detail of a squashed can

The kerb and debris

And the signpost under construction

Like my other models this is completely scratchbuilt (no kit parts anywhere). All comments and criticisms gratefully received.

Sublime…simply, sublime…

Vespa all you’r missing is the guy with the dunkin doughnut cup asking for any spare change[swg]

If I had 1/10 your talent, I would be 1000 times better than I am.

Simply unbeliveable, the artist in you does show!!

Rounds Complete!!

Fantastic, nothing more I can say.[#toast]

Another masterpiece. One question, how are you going to display this one? Don’t you usually mount them on the wall?

Thanks for the feedback guys. Much appreciated.

Sub: This one will hang on the wall too. When I made the base I installed all the necessary hardware for it to sit flat against a wall.

I didn’t see the street sign on the base in the pics that showed the entire dio…where was that added, and won’t it be an issue if you do hang it on the wall, as I’m sure it will project out some distance?

These are work in progress pics…The street sign is not finished, and the base needs a little more work too. The signpost will go in the small square on the sidewalk near the pedestrian crossing and poke out 4.125 inches (a 1/24 scale 99 inches). The post is a copper tube which will be placed into a drilled hole on the base about a half inch, so it will be pretty sturdy.

The funny thing is, I may well have stood on that very corner at some point earlier this year. [8D]

Just jaw-dropping, vespa boy! The crushed can is just, well…I’m just at a loss for superlatives!

What Planet of Advanced Modelling did you say you came from? Surely you’re not of this Earth?! LOL! [swg][(-D]

Over the weekend I weathered the signpost and installed it. Here are a couple of pics:

All I have to do now is print out the street sign decal and some small weatering touch ups around the place and it’ll be done.

That’s awesome, you putting anything in it?

another sweet surprise again, Vespa Boy.

New guy: Thanks for asking. I don’t put any vehicles on my dios. There has been interesting discussion as to whether ot not these are dioramas or not. I like empty streets with evidence of use. Maybe you can think of it as a model of a specific location.

Thanks Sprue 1

I think of it as 3D art, And really good, at that. A vehicle or figure doesn’t necassarily make it a dio for me. To me, a dio or vignette is a scene, and these project of your’s evoke a feeling in me. That’s art. The detail is so well done that it fools my eye, and I picture a scene. I come up with my own story. A crushed can is enough for me.

They are dios in my book. Argue and debate that until we’re all blue-faced, but anbody who says you’re wrong thinks much too highly of their own opinion.

Steve

Very well put, SteveM. I agree.

also, the points of discussion which I aslo read, and you describe as argue, are from wisdom and background as well.

man, I love this hobby and community!

Vespa…you did it again…congrats! [;)]

Here are some pics of the final dio

Thanks for all your input.

What a great piece of work! Very nice!

The crack in the concrete is especially well done.
