Hi, In previous post, I have asked questions about a F-15 streak eagle. My wife ( bless her heart) bought me a streak eagle, not nowing what it was. I donn,t want to go throught the masking and mixing paint problems.
Am I correct in assuming that the only difference between a F-15 streak eagle, and and a F-15 A is the streak eagle is a stripped down version of the F-15A ?
Essentially, yes. Streak Eagle was a stripped down “standard” F-15A. Equipment deemed “non-essential” to the record attempts, including radar and weapons systems (as well as the aforementioned paint) was removed. Some sources indicate that flap and airbrake actuators and even the landing lights were removed, with an overall weight saving of approximately 1800 pounds. To save even more weight, the aircraft flew with only sufficient fuel to safely complete each individual mission objective.
even the M61 fairing was faired over to make it more aerodynamic plus 80% of the electronics and 50% of the internal moving parts including the arresting hook were removed.
