. Strategic air and space museum in Nebraska

Any of you ever been through here at all? My family and I stopped through on our recent cross country road trip. Very, very nice, great static displays of (to name a few) B-29, B-52, B-1B Mig 21, f-111, Delta Dagger or Dart (I can never get them straight) f-104, The B-29 tanker I think It’s called the KC-97, B-17 and more. In the cafeteria you can watch through the huge windows the refurbishing aircraft. When we were there it was a ?? I’ve seen it a hundred times on the history and Mil channel, but I can never remember the name of it, tricycle landing gear. The one you see flying to during the “Airlift”.

It was a little funny also. My Family has a nanny from and there is huge ICBM in front of the building I explained to her that during a much different and not so happy time missiles like this one were pointed in her direction. Not unlike the ones over there pointed here. Ha, Ha.

Anyway If you happen to be driving through the area I highly recommend stopping

Sounds Cool, did you take any photos ???

Must be a huge place. Are all of those static displays inside? I’ve never seen a fully assembled b-29 i saw the fuselage section of the Enola Gay they had at the National Air and Space Meuseum in D.C. Must be quite the site to see.

The quickest way to tell a 102 from a 106 is that the 102 has a pointed tail and the 106 has a flat one.

Yes, it was all inside. I was pretty amazed myself. One area had the 29, 36, 52, 17, f-111 and more in it. The other just had -1b C-119, C-47, and the Britt super sonic nuke bomber.

As for taking pictures. You’d have thought I would be the biggest shutter bug, but I really didn’t get a chance as I was chasing my 5 year old who was more excited than me to be in their, and his 2 year pld brother and just trying to see everything. However I did try to snap some of the b-25 nose and cockpit but the flash reflection took care of. One other thing my wife did take some vidio of firts mentioned area, I will try and post it later…

I believe the plane you mean is the C-54, or DC-4 in civilian configuration.

Goondman;

Do you live in Omaha? Or Lincoln? I lived in Lincoln about 6 years ago and worked at Duncan Aviation and I worked with a couple of guys that volenteered there I’ve been there once right before I moved from Denver to Lincoln, what I wish they would do is start restoring their B-58 and B-36, the most imperssive thing there is the SR-71 in the front entrance makes you feel very small compaired to that aircraft

I went through Ouffit (sp?) Air Force Base in Omaha Neb, about 16 years ago. My wife and I were driving to Chicago and we went to SAC HQ and they had a neat museum inside and a ton of static planes outside on part of the tarmac for the base. They had a newly aquired (for the museum) SR-71, plus 1 of each of the SAC bombers, plus a B-17, and some other planes. Was definately worth going through at that time.
