Hey y’all! I was looking through some boxes in my room because I’m on vacation now and my room is an utter mess, but I found this old stormtrooper helmet I made like 8 or 9 years ago when I was 12-ish. I was in a really big Star Wars phase when Rogue One came out. I watched it three times in theaters with my friends, and it still is one of my favorite movies lol.
Anyways, I actually built it from one of those cruddy halloween 1/2 masks (because I was a stormtrooper for halloween that year (surprise surprise). I tried to make a 3D full helmet, but with my limited skills (and honestly now I probably wouldn’t be able to do any better) I somehow made a full helmet with plastic from Costco croissant boxes, super glue, and blue masking tape. I “unified” the initial structure with plaster, which does not look very good now lol. I think I primed/painted it with a white spray can and hand painted the details with acrylic. I’m honestly surprised that the tape has held up so long. Well, here’s the photos!
For a 12-ish year old skill level that’s amazing. My crafting ability at that age was creating functional items. Totally lacking form.
Got me all nostalgic now.
That’s a pretty decent looking helmet. I’m sure you had a blast that year.
When I was that age the movie Aliens just came out. That Halloween two of us were dressed as Colonial Marines, complete with come clothes, cardboard body armour and M41A1 pulse rifles cut out of a piece of 2”x8” from the garage. Lots of black and silver spray paint, with melted yellow candle wav splashed on to simulate acid splashes. A friend made an Alien costume using cardboard and black plastic garbage bags. The only thing that “ruined” the effect was the bright flowery pillow cases for loot.
