Ok guys one of the local hobby shops just got a range of Accurate Miniatures kits in and I was eyeing off the SBD-3 Dauntless kit but the price tag scared me off. It was $68 Aussie, and round here thats a very expensive 1/48 scale kit! Now normally for that I can get a Tamiya kit and some extra detail parts for it, so I just wanted to ask you guys if anyone can tell me just how good is that kit OOB.
Cheers…Snowy.
The kit is beautiful right OOB. No need for aftermarket at all, unless you want different decals. It will take some work on the interior, simple due to the level of detail incorporated into the kit. Can’t recommend it highly enough!
It’s a great kit, as are all the other offerings currently out. I have no hesitation in recommending any of them.
Great kit and builds up very well OOB. Add some seatbelts and aftermarket decals if you want different markings and she’s ready to go.
Even with exchange rate that seems a little over priced. I picked up a couple here not long ago “on sale” for $20.00 US each and generally see them for no more than $30.00 US. Maybe you should shop around a bit.
I’ve just had a look at frontline hobbies website and they have it for $68.95 Australian. So this must be the normal price. Unless this is where you saw it originally. You should be able to find a review of the kit somewhere on the net.
hope this helps
Daniel, the Frontline Hobbies price is within cents of the price I saw at a model shop in Canberra so it would appear that the $68 price tag is the going price round here for one of those kits. All the reviews I have found on the net so far have had very good things to say about the kit but even so, if Swanny says he can pick one of these up in the US for $20-$30 then someone on this side of the Pacific is making a fine profit. If importers weren’t so greedy then the excellent small companies like Accurate Miniatures would probably sell a lot more kits and flourish, for the benefit of all in the industry instead of being forced to the wall, as has happened in the past… Now that I have had my rant I’ll probably just buy the kit and shutup!
Cheers…Snowy.
Squadron have it advertised for US$32.47 which is around AU$47.00 based on current exchange rates. Throw in postage charges and you would be up around the mark they are asking for it in Oz. Looks like those of us who want the Dauntless are up for AU$68.00.
Bob
Yeah Bob, I’m resigned to the fact it’s gonna be around AU$68.00 however you buy it. Sounds like a fine kit though. Thanks for the info fellas!
Cheers…Snowy
Great kit.Buy it. Cheers! John.
I am finishing this kit right now in Atlantic scheme. It really is a gorgeous kit with a great interior. Much better than the Haegawa Dauntless in my opinion.
