Yup, that’s right:
Fujimi showcased their new pre-built, pre-painted (and very well, I might add) 1/144 Yamato at the Shizuoka Hobby Show last weekend.
Very nice, very big (around 6 feet or so), and VERY expensive.
At today’s exhange rate of 107 yen to the US Dollar, it’s right around $8,030 USD.
Start saving those pennies, folks!
Here are a coupla pix just to add some incentive:
You can see that this kid at the bow is wracking his brain trying to figure out how he’s gonna pay for it!
I’ll put that right next to my $10,000 1/48 B-36 from Wing Club! (As if…)
Heck, in south Georgia where I grew up, you could get 10-16 good used cars for that much!
My first car was a $400 1971 Torino. Ran great and looked great, except for the one red door. The rest of the car was yellow! It was beautiful from one side, though.
Ah, the memories…[:D]
The aircraft catapults and crane on this model are not solid plastic, but are made of latticework frames just like those on the real ship.
Please take a closer look, Chuck!
EDIT: I took a closer look myself, and the upper surface of the horizontal section of the crane does indeed seem to be solid; that is, it’s not an open latticework. The rest of the horizontal section and the vertical section of the crane as well as the aircraft catapults, however, are definitely open, and not solid. Sorry, Chuck![:I]
So that does it…I’m definitely NOT getting it now!! [;)]
Evidently this will only be offered as a finished model, and will not be offered as a kit.
As far as I know! [;)]
UPDATE:
This model is actually a product of a company called SOARART, INC., and the price has risen to almost $9,000 USD (903,000 yen). On sale from July, for you rich Yamato fans!
