Over the last few weeks I have knocked off a couple builds that have been hanging around the bench for a while. Now I am free to start a couple of new things. Do you recognise this 1/48 Lockheed fuselage? It’s an easy one.

That looks like the F-15 Reporter/P-61C (?) What scale is it?
XP-58?
Is that the Chain Lightning?
[#ditto]
Looks like a P-61, but that was made by Northrop. Since it is Lockheed, I agree with the previous two, the XP-58 Chain Lightning
It’s the F-15 Reporter, the final development of the P-61 and it is 1/48 scale. I’ve been trying to get all the pieces together for this project for a couple months and the final details arrived yesterday.
Swanny,
A while back, I lost out on a Reporter conversion kit on EvilBay - do you know of a source for the conversion kit, preferably in styrene or resin? I’m noto too good with vac kits…[:I]. I would even be willing to collect the various parts for the conversion if you can steer me to a source. Thanks!

Concise Models did a resin conversion in 1/48, #1007. The one I have is not up to current resin standards but is useable. I got mine on eBay.
This looks like the Lone Star 1/48 vacuform conversion which I threw away about two years ago. I ordered it and all I got in the box were the two halves and the less than clear vac canopy. No instructions, no nothin’.

I believe that Amtech made a kit of the reporter-it’s advertized on the back ofmy “101 best tips” from FSM. I don’t know any more than that, though.
It would have been nice, but unfortunately it failed to materialize…must have been sent from a bad transporter room.
Is that the plane that Howard Hughes designed(and later crashed) that looked very similar to the F-15 ?
This is the Lone Star conversion I am working with. It includes a four page instruction sheet, very nice and clear vac canopy with crisp frame lines (Mike did a new master for this part just last month) and only has two vac pieces – the fuselage sections. All the rest is resin and of reasonably good quality. I am rescribing the vac pieces as the panel lines are somewhat soft but not a tough project at all. Scribing the balance of the Monogram kit is going to be a bit of an adventure.

The vac conopy is resting on a resin master (included with the package) so I could make more if needed. It also includes two photo etched frets.
Dang! I didn’t get any of this stuff when I ordered mine! I didn’t get any of the resin parts, only the vac formed halves and a bad canopy. I think I got ripped off. LOL!
Eric
PS. Swanny, please, please PLEASE post pics when you get this one finished (or work in progress pics). I’m surprised none of the “mainstream” manufacturers ever made the C and E variants. That’s sort of like making all the P-51 variants but not making a D version.
Once things get moving with this build it will show up on my site as an on-going project. Of course I will abuse everyone here with regular updates as well.
No, very different airplane. Swanny called the reporter a Lockheed, but it was built by Northrop and was the last version of a very successful night fighter. Hughes was test flying the prototype of his own XF-11, designed from the outset as a recon airplane. Here’s what Wikipedia has on the Hughes airplane:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XF-11
They are both artful designs, the F-15 version of the P-61 that Swanny is building is the best looking of the Black Widows, I think.
Swanny, is Lonestar still producing the F-15 conversion?
Currently Mike is taking a little vacation from production to clear up other loose projects but he just did new canopy masters for this package. Once he comes off vacation you should have no problem getting the set from him. There is a banner to his site at my site.
