I’ve been working on Eduard’s 1/48 P-39Q Profi Pack kit along with the Hasegawa Mustang.
The cockpit is painted with Humbrol Bronze Green. This paint is THICK ! It took a while to thin it to airbrushing consistency.
This version of the kit has lots of PE goodies. There’s still quite a few items to add to the sidewalls. There’s decals for the placards, and wiring included also. This will build into a very detailed cockpit. So far, the fit has been great, and the panel lines are finely engraved. I have some Aeromaster decals, and I almost can’t wait to finish it !
Thanks for letting me share the start of another build !
Excellent progress so far, I built the same kit some years ago, for a mag review, only problem I found with it is the trailing edges of the wing are a bit thick, looking forward to seeing more on this build.
Looks good Pix. Have you seen this months issue of Air Classics? It’s got a ton of 'cobra pictures in it. Might be worth a peek at . It breaks down all the variants of the 39 and includes some really nice profiles. The Airacobra is definately one of my favorite WWII A/C.
roadkill - I haven’t seen that issue. Unfortunately, the only newsstand in town closed over a year ago. I’ve found some decent pics on the 'net, though.
Yeah, the P-39 had such a streamlined shape for an early-war aircraft. I’ve always liked the look of the mid-engine & car doors. Plus that big cannon in the spinner ! Too bad it was not more successful as a fighter, but being pretty doesn’t win any battles.
Looks great so far! [tup]Keep us posted with your progress.
I too like the look of the P-39. I built Monogram’s Promodeler P-39Q several years ago in Shomo’s markings, and it was a very nice kit. I have a fondness for those Monogram models. I have Eduard’s P-400 in my stack, and have heard good things about this kit too. As you say, lots of goodies come with the Profi-pack.[:)]
Looks like the start of another great build. Did you say 14 parts for the instrument panel? That sounds like it’d be a bit tricky to put together. Keep posting pics as you progress.
Off to a great start Pix ! One thing to be careful of is the fit of the doors to the canopy frame if you want the doors closed. If you leave em open, it’s no problem.
pingtang - I use PE on most of my builds, so I’m fairly confident using it. It’s NOT a kit to build if you’ve never used PE before. There’s a lot of alignment to the assembly of the instrument panel, and it’s difficult to get a second try gluing it without bending the parts.
Rick - I read about that point in FSM’s review of this kit, and I’ve dryfitted them. To close one or both, you can cut the window frame from the door, glue the door in place, and use some clear plastic for the windows. But since there’s so much detail in this cockpit, I’ll pose both doors open.
