Could someone please five me the skinny on these “Starfix” models that are being sold on E-Bay. They are listed as kits but I never heard of such a kit. Is it a toy?
They are toys from what I have heard
Run like your house is on fire from them. They stink.
They’re not toys, they’re just very basic and poorly molded kits.
Go ahead and buy one or two. Don’t worry too much about working too hard on the kits. Just have fun and practice your airbrush skills on them.
However, don’t pay any more than $1 for each kit. That’s what they’re going for in dollar stores across the nation.
Regards,
Starfix?!?!

Lemmee put it this way, if some modelers die and go to hell, (my fate, most likely!) this is what they give 'em to work on for all of eternity…
Fade to Black…
modeler heaven: Trumpeter, tamiya, and hasegawa
modeler neutral: ground: Monogram, Revell, dragon
modeler hell: Starfix, frog, eastern express, zengdefu
This is a good topic. Now, if I were in hell and I wanted to build, say, an F-8 or an F-5A, I would be handed a Fujimi kit. And let us not forget some of those Satanic Matchbox efforts. How badly I wanted an FJ-4, oh, how I felt I’d been DOOMED TO HELL![}:)]
never forget the 1/32 fgr’s
Now now now, Starfix kits have thier place in the modeling world.
Don’t get me wrong, they’re bad kits. But they do have their place.
For example, I built the approximately 1/72 (even though it says 1:48 scale on the box) scale Spitfire Mk.V. It turned out looking approximately like a Spitfire, and it gave me a chance to practice filling seams with putty and wiping away the excess with nail polish remover. I also had a ball painted the camo pattern.
The best part was that it took me maybe 12 hours to finish compared to the 90 or 100 hour saga that was my next build. (I’m a very slow builder.)
I gave it to my dad, who loves Spitfires, and it now resides in his office, on his computer.
Having said all that, I doubt I’ll ever buy one. That one was a gift.
Regards,
Without doubt, the [censored] pieces of plastic I have ever seen.
Here is what they call a Bf 109G !

I can use the raised rivets to SAND other models ! Panels bear no resemblance to the real items, the cockpits consist of a blob of a pilot seated upon an “L” shaped seat.
If nothing else, they can serve as sacrifices on which to practice scribing, seam filling, and painting. I can find no use for them as replicas.
An ex-girlfriend’s brother gave me about a dozen of these kits because he “knew I liked models.”
PU Stinky ! Starfix is the Israeli version of Lindberg, just not as good.[:p]
By the way there better be some Monogram kits in heaven! [angel]
Starfix is LIndberg on drugs…basically useless.
man i still got some of their 1/72 kits built up from years ago in a box in the loft. i posted some pics of these very early efforts someplace. i’ll put in a link when i find them.
Greg
I own one Starfix kit and that is just as a reminder why not to every own a second Starfix kit. Maybe some day I shall give it to someone whom I really don’t like.
Hey Swanny, i would love to see if someone with your awesome skills at modelmaking could make one of these look great. on saying that if it is the 1/48?? ish (supposed) spitfire 14 this dont even look like an aircraft let alone a spit. that would be an impossable task.
Greg
C’mon guys…don’t sugar coat it!!! Come out and say what you really think about Starfix kits!!!
Never seen them here in Oz…but If I do I will avoid them like the plague based on all your comments. Still…like anything - ‘ya gets whats ya pays for’.
Bob
gee guys do you think they are bad or what? like bob said dont hold back.
hmmm a mfgr that makes revell look good. interesting thought.
joe
they even make v.e.b plasticart look good.
Greg
You guys are right…they suck compared to other brands…but they are good for trying out new techniques and for practicing for the REAL GOOD models to build
I can’t believe there are worse kits than Zengdefu. Starfix must really be wonderful.
