Star Wars YT-2600 "Starfortress" kitbash project

I’ve been fooling around on & off with this project for almost 10 years now & have finally decided to make it my #1 project to complete. It combines my two great loves, Star Wars & military aviation. I’m combining the fuselage of Monogram’s B-36 Peacemaker kit with the old AMT/Ertl Millennium Falcon kit to make a “long-nose” gunship, the YT-2600 Starfortress (a nod to the YT-1300 designation of the Millennium Falcon & the “fortress” series of bombers produced by Boeing). The finished kit will be over 3 feet long, and will have light-up hyperdrive engines, as well as computer screens, running lights, and even a light-up oven in the mess hall. I’ll keep posting photos of the project as I go along, and welcome any comments or suggestions.

First, I cut off the kit’s cockpit arm, and patched the hole up with sheet styrene. I’ll dress up the empty space with bits & pieces from the spares box (much like the modelers at ILM did with the original Falcon). http://images3a.snapfish.com/232323232fp7339:>nu=8856>476>258>WSNRCG=339553:4;:349nu0mrj

Looks like my photo is too big to upload! I’ll have to fix that & repost later.

This sounds really cool ! Cant wait to see

OK, let’s see if this works better:

Next, I cut the fuselage of the B-36 in half, cut out the wing root sections, then flipped the rear section upside down, and re-attached the two halves. I needed to flip the rear in order to have the tail match up with the front landing gear box in the Falcon kit, otherwise, there was no secure place to attach the piece.

Then I cut off the nose from the cockpit arm, filled in some of the window panes with putty, and attached it to the front of the forward fuselage.

I dressed up the weapons bay with the kit’s original internal bracing, some styrene tubing & wires from old headphones.

The completed (so far) forward fuselage looks like this

Internet Explorer makes the pictures show up as white boxes with red X’s in them. I had to refresh the page to see them. Any way, here’s an interesting shot. I see you have one of those piece of sh*t calipers that you can get for a dollar too! I had to modify mine to make it a little more useful.

This is the only photo I could view. Sorry, love the idea and please keep us posted. I really want to see how she turns out. [Y]

I don’t know why I’m having such a problem posting photos. Everything looked good on the preview. I wish FSM would allow for direct attachments, rather than using a 3rd party photo sharing site. [:(]

Sorry cant see the photos either. Yeah I cant get a photo to post either ! My daughter says she get it done for me when she has time . Yeah a teenager with time . But really want to see this so dont give up

What you’re describing sounds wonderful.

But alas, I can’t see the pics either.

Perhaps, instead of loading them here you give us a link to your web page?

If you don’t have a web page, WORDPRESS has free hosting and is easy to use with no pop ups.

If you go to Community Assistance(aka Forum Help), there is a thread that shows you how to post pics. This project has definitely piqued my curiosity.

Hope this helps.

I appreciate all of the interest that my project has generated so far. I’m going to see what I can do about this photo posting problem & hopefully get some photos up as soon as possible.

Let’s see if this gets posted.

The picture was here 5 minutes ago when I posted it, but now is not. What the deuce is going on here?

I can see the photos when i reply to a post with photos, and i can see them when i right click the photo and view it in a new tab, otherwise it looks like FSM issue with webshots.

The project looks good, im having trouble imagining the overall look of the thing though.

The millenium falcon was originally a light freighter class vessel which has been modified extensively over the years. Another variant was the Ebon Hawk shown below, Classed as a dynamic light freighter it went through life in similar circumstances to the millenium falcon. Ive got more info, but i need a bit of time to research, do you have sketches of what your thinking of it looking like?

Picture an acoustic guitar - the long forward fuselage extends from the forward mandibles - and with bigger turrets in place of the quad lasers from the Falcon.

Sort of like a YT-2550?

i think webshots is preventing it showing because it’s on a different website than webshots (forwarder). might i recommend imageshack? www.imageshack.us

sounds like an interesting project, might be worth persevering with the images. when all else fails, just post a ‘link’ to the image, so we can still see it.

After putting this project on the shelf for a while, I’m back to work on it & hopefully can start uploading photos of the work in progress.
