I like to paint figures while coats are drying on whatever model I have on the bench at the time. Or as a break between builds. Right now these guys are filler while working on another model so updates will likely be irregular. This first post is work to date.
They are from the Fantasy Flight game Imperial Assault. My only complaint is that the figure detail can be rather poor/malformed in places which affects the look of the final product.
Decided to give them different colored skin but similar uniforms. May try to weather the uniforms differently to help individualize them further. At this point they reminded me of crayons.
Started layering on some lemon yellow on the purple, light rust on the blue fellow, green on the red, and light green on the green guy.
To add some interest to the figures I did a very thin wash of gold on the purple guy and similarly thinned wash of silver on the red.
They were then dry brushed with a highlight and glazed with a very thin gloss medium.
At this point I was pretty happy with the skin colors and started blocking in their uniforms. Decided to use a color palette similar to how Bossk looked in the ESB.
And then moved onto the pack straps. Doing them as a black leather. The packs will probably be some form of olive or dun color.
I had an old black and white chess set with a Roman look. A while back, between models, I just added a little detail to the pieces and it sort of spruced them up a little. What you are doing with those game pieces gave me the thought to do the same with the chess pieces. I only added a little detail to the figures but now that I’ve seen what you are doing, I think I’ll do a redo to my set.
I’ve had a few games with unadorned figures and always wondered what they could be like with a little paint. A ran across what others had done and it inspired me to take the leap.
Have fun with the Roman chess pieces!
So my other model project has been challenging in ways I didn’t expect. Which resulted in these guys getting the majority of my attention.
Let me know if I am being too verbose in my postings.
This photo I’d pretty much finished blocking in the color for all the major pieces of their uniforms and kit.
To introduce some shadows and tone down the colors, a brown wash was done over everything but their white vests.
The eyes were too bright. Added a black wash to increase depth and make the colors more subtle. Then applied a light grey wash to their white vests to add some depth. Then I went over all the raised portions of the uniform with a drybrush of the original buff and white.
Used the same buff color to drybrush highlights on their packs.
Last steps are to paint the bases black and do the final flat coat to protect everything.
Congrads Phoenix!!! They turned out awesome!!! The idea of using different colours to break up the monotony of the figures all being given the same pose worked out perfectly!!! [Y]
