Star wars models

I was recentley going through my sci-fi library when i spotted the books from the X-wing series. Has anybody out there read these books and has any one built a " ugly". these were described as pirate ships that were built from mating x-wing and tie fighters together, ie: a tie ball section with x-wing engine and wing set up or an X-wing with tie fighter wing panels.
the sky is te limit for the mix and match that can be done with these ships. If anyone has built one please post a pic as it would be cool to see. I don’t see why one would have to be limited to just star wars ships for parts either, any way if you have’nt read the books they are pretty good and fun to get the imagination running rampant,[:p]

Have read the books and I think it would be a good project. Never seen any of those Uglies built anywhere, but that should not stop you being the first! Go for it!

There are a few entries that somewhat fit the description.

Wow, I checked out the site, it was really nice. the problem is that the models are to “nice” looking. they look like a ship built by engineers, while “uglies” are built by pirate’s and shade tree type mechanics. Thanks for typing in though, I set that web page in the favorites box right away, It is wild what the imagination can come up with as is shown by the modeles on that web site, I guess thats why I think this is the best hobby around.

I’m working on a ship consisting of my old remote control for my tv and a lot of scrap parts from kits. It’s looking pretty cool so far?

post pics when your done, sounds like fun. It’s funny reading interviews from people who worked on star wars and how they went through boxes of new kits looking for the “right” parts for what they had pictured for the movies. imagination is a wonderful thing and keeps life from getting boring.

I would Like to make aModel of Corran Horns X-Wing, with the green stripes. Also the Rouge Squadron when they went on there own and painted them their own colours would b einteresting too.

Regarding the Uglies. There was a special Rogue Squadron comic that had a detailed drawing of an ugly made up of a TIE cockpit with twin ion cannons on top, an X-wing cockpit section in front (actual cockpit of the ship) and a gutted R2 unit attached at the base to the front. It had TIE Interceptor panels for wings. It was so cool looking that I was going to make it and then I saw that someone beat me to it. Think it was at the 2001 or 2002 IPMS Nationals. Can’t find a picture on the web right now. Will have to see if it is in one of the mags.

Did find an Ugly on Starship Modelers site.

Done by Alfred Wong.

that’s a really interesting ship, you’ve got me inspired!
I’ll post some pics of my scratch built junker as I progress, just check out ronUSMC’s web page, I’ll post it there. I’ll put some up tonight.

I just saw the ship on the site Philp had on his response. PERFECT!!!
now that is a UGLY ship. it is so cool how things can come to life in plastic.
The star wars snap kits are perfect fodder for kitbashing, I am working on a z-95 headhunter now and would like to build an E-wing also.

Alfred builds and paints some incredible models and at an incredible rate. He’s also mastered several SW kits for SMT. Check out his site:
