Star Trek federation tribute build

Hey all,

this will be a group build to pay tribute to you’re favo startrek actor!

the rules:

  1. federation ships only (canon or not)

  2. any scale, any era.

  3. Ships name should be tributed to you’re own favorite startrek actor, so if you like cpt.picard, name the ship USS Steward, or for seven of nine, USS Ryan, etc. you get the idea… Registry numbers should be based on the birthdays of the actor.

subsection 3.1: if for whatever reason you dont want to pay tribute to the cast, thats cool too  **yup chris, this one is for you baby!!

  1. have fun!!

Start: whenever you’re ready!! ENGAGE!

End: 1/06/07

If you like the idea, and want to enter this build, please name the shipclass you want to build, and, it’s name and registry number. (and maybe the reason you chose the actor/actress you did…)

welcome aboard and, good choice!!! marina has allways been my favo TNG babe as well

Well, I figured I should be posting over here, so here is where I am at…

The phaser strips and the escape pods are done!..

I am not into building ships other than the Enterprise. So I am going to be boring on this one, and call this one the (wait for it)…Enterprise D…

Chris

Almost a week into it, and this is where I am at!

Saucer and secondary hull are all but complete… I now have to do the deflector dish and then will begin with the decals… The warp engines are being done seperately, and so I am still working on those aswell…

ps. I just noticed I missed one escape pod at the front… I have since finished doing it, and I must say, that even though I will enjoy looking at the end result. This will definately be the last Enterprise D that I will ever build… There are too many windows, too many escape pods… But all in all it will make it stand out once done… So I will just keep plugging along…

Chris

Dont mind me people!.. Happy to keep this thread going all by myself!! Although I would love to see some more participation find its way in and join in on this build… I plan on doing a few builds. So dont hold back guys…

Here is another update, and the more I do on the this, the more I know I have a long way to go…

Anyways, I finished doing the aztec on the whole ship, and have done alot of detail work with windows and so forth. But I decided that I wanted to put it on a base to get an idea as to how she will turn out… I will say that I placed the warp engines on it, but they have not been azteced or detailed so they look pretty plain at the momment…

I have also done the deflector… I originally did it blue with red, but it looked a little strange, so I decided on a totally blue dish…

Some of the decalling for the saucer has been done, but I still have a few that have to go on, so it isnt finished either.

I didnt light this kit, but I wanted to try and make the deflector look like it was lit to give it some life… It looks like I splashed paint all over it, but dont worry, its just the flash from the camera.

Next to my 1/32 WW II Australian Mustang.

Alot of detail has gone into the saucer, but I still have to detail the main shuttle hanger door, aswell as the smaller 2 doors on the back of the neck.

Side shot on the base that will be used to mount it on…

Chris

chris, did you do anything about the “roughness” on the bottom of the saucer by the neck? I’ve had a few of these and have noticed it kinda has that crackly spraypaint look. also on the deflector dish, I have found the E-D’s to be the most difficult to replicate

Hi mate… Do you mean where the saucer meets with the neck?.. If so, no I didnt get anything like that. mainly because I usually only paint with flat acrylics… I just went back and had a look at that side shot that I took, I think its the last one, and the neck does look a bit rough… But that is just all the windows. A little hard to see… Its the one thing I hate about the E-D… All the windows are huge on it, but the neck has a million tiny ones that look out of place with the rest of the ship…

As for the deflector. I masked everything off nice and tidy, and I originally did the blue dish with the red rings. Problem was, that it looked like crap. So I ended up using Tamiya Sky Blue and a very light mix of white and sky blue to give it the glowing effect on the other rings… Not sure what you think, But I think it turned out fine as it wont be lit…

Chris

Against the better judgement of more knowlegdable people I decided to stick with minature christmas ligths for lighting my Intrepid. So here’s the pic.

I know, it’s a mess, I should have used a LED. But I’m doing this build cheap, the kit has cost me € 5 at the Nationals and the lights where € 1,-…

Well, if and when it is finished, people start gathering around it and singing Xmas carrols. Then dont come running to us!!. he he he

Actually nothing wrong with your idea… I would just check how much heat they radiate… My first lighted kit when I was a kid was the original Millennium Falcon. And the light system for that thing was nothing more then what appeared to be xmas lights… Look forward to seeing more!..

Chris

I have checked how mucht heat the lamps generate. I turned them on for an quarter of an hour and even after that period they where not to hot to touch. As an extra security, the alumium foil should proted againtst the little heat that the ligths make.

In have now closed the hull. The fit was reasonable but I stil needed a lot of tape to get it al to fit properly during drying. I also started on the nacelles.

I also thought of a name, the USS Crosby…

Can I still get in on this ?

Bud

You sure can old mate… What do have in mind?..

As for me, I am nearly finished my E-D and TOS-E’s… So I am going to add my AMT USS Reliant to this build, and while I am at it, I may just finish my PL Refit for this group aswell!

Remco… Looks like you are getting somewhere with that Voyager… Did you get a chance to take a look at my friends Voyager at that link I suggested?

Chris

I don’t know what kit I will get for this GB but I will post here latter today with it. Now it’s ANY Fed ship, right ? Even a suttle ?

Thanks

Bud

Cpt. Sponder will have the final say, I guess, but I don’t see a problem with a shuttle. The rules only say “Federation Ship”, after all. What type were you thinking of building?

And likely unprimered! I can’t find any primer over here. Might have to check w/our Sheet Metal folks and see what I can come up with. Barring that, maybe I’ll see if I can bug the vehicle maintenance folks…

Regardless, I’m building the Cozmo Heavy Industries TOS Federation-class Dreadnought in 1/2500 scale. Possibly my PNT Models Avenger-class Heavy Frigate, as well. It needs a little work, tho, as it’s a “second” casting.

Lookin’ good, thus far. Glad to hear that the Christmas Lights aren’t generating much heat. I know that the older ones here in The States used to give off too much heat for such use, but the newer stuff they’ve released the last several years are more like LED’s in regards to how much heat they generate.

Nice choice on the name, too. I really like the movies and TV Shows I’ve seen her in. What’s the registry going to be?

I was thinking about the DS9 Runabout.

Does anyone know of a Good site that has unusual Star Trek kits ?

Thanks all

Bud

Sign me up for an Enterprise C, fully built and all lighted up with flashy lights…

OK I have made up my mind. I will be building these for this GB.

Each of these are 1/3788 scale… yea I know SMALL. Now some of you saw that I posted some of these before looking for decals. The one’s I am going to build for this GB are others I had and I am still looking for decals…

For the names of the ships. I know know yet.

I hope this is ok with y’ll

Have a GREAT day

Bud

joey, great to see you joining in… Will the E-C be the AMT one?.. Look forward to seeing how it comes along…

Bud… I have a feeling you will be a very busy man… As for the decals… If you have the patients, atleast you will be able to mask off and spray on the red starfleet markings, but how you go about doing the registry numbers I dont know… Maybe a stencil of some sort that you can spray through and touchup with a brush?

As for me… Although I am still building the TOS and E-D. I have decided that I will keep my AMT Reliant, and keep it for this build… But as I am still doing the other two… Atleast some of you guys will get a bit of a head start on me![:I]

Chris

The registry? haven’t thought of that, yet.

Here are some more progress pics:

Since the pieces where a bit warped I had to add some strip styrene to keep the whole together.

Another pic of a rather bad fitting piece…
