Stalingrad GB??

Anyone interested in taking part in a group buy starting August 21, 2006 - February 2, 2007 to commemorate the Battle of Stalingrad? Plan would be to include all types of models including armor, aircraft, figures, dioramas, artillery, or whatever else you can come up with. I’ll be happy to come up with a badge if there is enough interest.

I’d be up for it. I have the new 1/35 Tamiya Stug IIIB that I’d love to do in a Stalingrad scheme. [8D]

Ok sweet. DrewH said he’d be interested with a IL-2m3 so hopefully we can get some more. And if anyone wants to do more than one project at a time that’s fine too.

Was the Marder III part of that battle?

Although I can’t definitively say yes or no at this point, I am leaning towards “yes.” The Sd.Kfz. 139 Marder III began production in April of 1942 (built 363 of this variety according to Wikipedia), so I’m sure they were available to the Germans by August of that year for the battle.

Can anyone else confirm this??

I’ve found the same information but nothing to confirm their presence in Stalingrad. I know the Germans made these tanks after their encounter with Russian ones, but …

I have a 1/72 Morser Karl with Tender kit. Don’t have much knowledge on these but bought it because it’s an awesome looking piece of equipment, and do recall them working the Eastern Front against the U.S.S.R. I have a video clip one firing on buildings, but not sure where it was filmed.

Was that dude in the Stalingrad battle?

The Marder III was in stalingrad. Here is where I found the answer:

So I might be in with the 1/35 Tamiya Marder III Sd. Kfz 139

Hmm, if someone can confirm that this was in or around Stalingrad, and can count towards the GB, I’m so in. I have a Trumpeter kit that I could probably build around this timeframe.

was the sdkfz 251 stuka zu fuss in stalingrad? because i could put it in that topic

Zokissima, have you ever seen the video clip? Would be glad to show ya - aric_001@hotmail.com . Write me if anyone wants to check it out. I will be putting it up somewhere to view online soon.

No Karl Morsers in Stalingrad. Guns I-IV went to the Russian Front in July 1941 with the 628th schwere Artillerie Abteilung. They saw action at various sites, including Lemburg in that year. Their most famous actions were at Sevastopol.

The only Panzer Divisions in Stalingrad were the 14th, 16th and the 24th. SP anti-tank guns, such as a Marder III, could also be found in infantry or Panzer-Grenadier Divisions and independent Panzerjager units. But remember, just because a vehicle was in production at the time, doesn’t mean it fought in every battle. You need to confirm which unit a particular vehicle served in and where it fought. Not always an easy task.

Doesn’t sound like anyone here is doing any Soviet stuff yet, so I’ll put in to do a T-34…[}:)]

Couple guys on the aircraft forum are doing some soviet aircraft. I’m thinking of doing a Yak 9 and perhaps a ruined city diorama using only figures…i guess that’s called a vignette. Glad to see there’s some interest in this.

Wish I could join, but I’m so busy… As far as the Marder, I’m not sure, but many went to Africa.

re:Marder III-does anyone have pics/links to web sites that would show the correct camo scheme for the MarderIII at Stalingrad?

Thanks

nobody knows about the stuka zu fuss?

Grey only. Dunkelgelb wasn’t official intil Feb. of 1943.

My New Vanguard book doesn’t mention a date, but I doubt they were at Stalingrad.

I know that the Stuka zu Fuss (rocket launcher racks mounted to the sides of the 251) was built shortly after the Battle for France . I’m not sure if they were at Stalingrad, if I come across something in my reference library I’ll let you know. I do know they were used extensively on the Eastern Front so the odds are fairly good that they were used at Stalingrad.
