St Louis Police Phantom LAV - WIP

In car modeling a “phantom” is a “shoulda been” design.

I have had this in the stash for years intending to build it this way. It’s the Italeri kit from a while back.

It seems an unlikely thing to happen, but there were nights I wished I had a vehicle like this.

Built straight from the box with not much interior detailing, figured ya can’t see it anyway.

Used evergreen styrene strip and rod to scratch the red/blue led lights, headlights and taillights. All detailed with paint as well as the arrow stick on the back.

I’m using a Chimneyville 1/43 sheet for the SLMPD markings.

Enjoy!

I just can’t imagine why the police would need a 20-30mm cannon…however, there have been a bunch of crazies driving around before…the guy who stole the tank, the guy who made an armored buldozer and went nuts downtown somewhere in colorado… I guess they could justify that… :stuck_out_tongue:

G - what a great idea…nothing like trying something different.

Rounds Complete!!

I quite agree, the police should have vehichles like that. I mean "stop and put your hands up or we will tazer you’ oesnt have the same effect as ‘stop and put your hands up or we will blow you to kingdom come’

I’d be more worried about the Dallas cops driving that than what the criminals they’re chasing might do…

You know I think I read a forum somewhere and some local size department picking up some kinda APC armed with a .50 cal Browning.

Not quite the 20mm but still… not the best round for police IMHO when it comes to controlling it. Maybe after you send a few through a car, suspect, house behind him and so on… it’ll stop?

I think PD should have some armored cars, sure, but I feel the armament should be limited to SWAT members’ small arms, I’ve watched some Dallas SWAT episodes where they stick some of their snipers out of the turret opening in their armored cars and that was reasonable- even though they were armed with .50 cal rifles, one surgical shot taken against a hard backdrop vs. a quick burst of fire seems far less terrifying for bystanders, hostages, etc.

Anyway… I really like the arrow bar on the back end agentg, looks pretty accurate to me! The main siren is sweet too- mounted on the turret? Or on front end?

Wayne,

Cant wait to see this one finished. I could use something like that for traffic stops.

I built this primarily for fun, but also to reflect the possibilities of things to come.

Anyone who’s spent time in a radio car can understand. [;)]

It was Boulder Colorado actually! I know, I live about an hour away from it.

Cool build agent G! I was born in St. Louis.

First- Nice. as an LAV mechanic, I am impressed. it looks great!

Second- Why in the world would you need a M242 Bushmaster 25mm chaingun for? Answer- cause one shot from that 25mm and that high-speed persuit just ended pretty damn quick. [(-D]

EDIT- Refueling is gona be a pain in the @$$ with that arrow bar in the way as the fuel receptical for the fuel tank is on the top center of the rear, right behind the top doors.

While you were all sleeping I started with the markings.

Used Chimneyville’s 1/43 scale St Louis PD markings. As soon as I aquire another printer I will make some custom lettering for the side of the beast.

I marked it in accordance with the regs in place when I left.

Still some light weathering to do. I will place it on a base with some figures.

Enjoy

Finished the first of the figures, the base, and have almost completed the vehicle.

Got a printer so the markings are finished, #154 was my badge number. Enjoy!

Finally finished. This was fun and I learned a lot about 1/35 figs.

Wayne,

Nice job all round and a nice change of subject too.

Very, very cool subject and it turned out to be one awesome looking build!![8D] Love the what-if factor. [tup]

LOL I’ve spent time in a radio car, and I know exactly what you mean. And it would come in handy for those meetings with the morons upstairs administration.
