…that really drive you nuts! Anyway, work keeps being whittled away at on my Spruce Goose. I’ve made a few additions since last post, and here they are:
I finally got around to finishing the nacelle mounts, and here’s a mockup of what one bank of engines will look like. Good stuff, if you ask me.
I’ve added a few control linkages on the tail. I still have a few more to add on the rudder and upper surfaces, but it’s getting closer!
Here’s the cradle in the wings to hold the vertical battery box that’s going to dive all eight electric motors in the props…
…and here’s said battery box! (Don’t worry about running everything off a single AA battery. It seemed to work fine with my Ju 290Z with the same setup.)
The major sticking point right now for me is wire. I can’t do a whole lot of nothin’ without wiring some major components. Once the wires are in, I can mount the battery box, close the wings up, and then begin work on the aelerons and flaps. Iiee. The work is never finished…
Stay tuned for more updates as they become available, and thanks for looking!
How is the addition to your house coming along, so you can house this beast? [8D] Just kidding, man - that thing is really coming along, given your school schedule and all! Keep the prog pics coming, and thanks for sharing!!!
That sucker is 1/72. It measures out to about four feet across. I’ll be sure to post some comparison shots once it’s all finished (in 2018, at this rate!).
Thanks for the comments, guys. Work on it has been really slow, due to school and the fact that there’s so much to do, I don’t know where to start. The tail needs finished, the canopy needs to be made, wires need to be installed, MOTORS need to installed, alerons and flaps need to be made- you see where I’m going, right? Well, as always, I’ll try and put stuff up every time I do some “filmable” work.
If you should need a photo of a specific area of the plane, with plenty of notice, I could schedule a trip up to mcminnville to photograph it if needed.
It’s been a few years since I’ve been up there, the last time, they hadn’t finished re-assembling the plane yet.
Awesome looking model. That’s one huge model. That will look and sound very cool once it’s done. With all those engines going at once you could possibly use it as a fan[^]… Looking forward to more pics.
Let me say first off, thank you very much. So far the only problems I’m having in the ways of finding detail photos for are the areas that aren’t really accessable to cameras. I’ve been having major issues finding the control linkages on the upper surfaces of the wings and tailplanes. So far I’ve just been mirroring the lower linkages on the upper surfaces, but if they are different (and, more importantly, you can get a shot of them), that would be awesome!
My only other idea would be to look for the small details overlooked on larger plans- antennaes, pitot tubes, vents, etc.
