Well, it’s mostly finished. There’s one or two details I need to add once the deck is installed in one of the fuselage halves, and the front control panel will be installed once the fuselages halves are glued together. But enough gab. Here’s the pics. (As always, be warned. Pics are rather large.)
In the words of Groundskeeper Willie from the Simpsons, “It’s not pretty, but it’ll do.”
Once I get a few useable bulkheads, I’m ready to close the fuselage halves up and begin the long, arduous task of filling in all the wonderful seam gaps. Here’s hoping I don’t run out of putty…
Your scratchbuilding skills never cease to amaze me! This is far more than I would have taken on, and you are doing a beautiful job! Thanks for sharing and keep the progress pics coming!
Awesome work! I’m reading a hughes biography now and it said that he was obsessed with that thing… You knew he liked you if he gave you a tour of it! It’d say your work so far is smashing! Especially for 72nd! I cant even shake a stick at something that small…
Thanks for the comments. I’m making a number of bulkheads right now out of plywood to stiffen up the fuselage and place the flight deck, then I’m ready to close the fuselage up. I can probably begin seam work by next Wednesday. I just need to run to Hobby Lobby and pick up a few things, and then it’s off to the races.
I just put the upper wings together over the fuselage, and that puppy looks awesome! Even though the kit is still huge, the finished product somehow looks bigger than it really is. It’s really pretty cool.
