A little while ago, Mike (Renarts) built and painted a Tiger tank in a very original yet convicing scheme… I for one loved it and thought about other possibilities…
After a bit of research on big cats and AFVs, I finally decided upon the Leopard. I therefore purchased Revell’s 1/72 Leopard 1A4 and got the ball rolling.
Another more recent post shows some of the little things I added/changed to the basic (but great!) kit.
To be honest with you all, I’m a bit disappointed with my results… [:(]
It’s not as stark as I first imagined it, and I should have cut down a bit more on the washes and weathering… The washes in particular made the white bits fade a touch too much into the sand/brown color, while the drybrushing toned down the black a touch too much into a greyish/green…
Oh well… I had fun planning it and making it, so all is not lost… [:)]
Looks great! I obviously didn’t finish Patton’s Patton by Haloween as hoped… Too much to do at work, Guard and home. Still working on the shiny little devil! YOURS is very nice!
I didn’t really think that I would see a day that I can call a Leopard “beautiful” but that’s exactly the word that I have for that thing, DJ. I believe that you have really achieved a Leopardish look on that one. You might just think that the spots have been faded but that’s probably because you have a very striking and attention-drawing background. Try it on a plain background and you will see that it looks very nice.
Absolutely wonderful. Great job. I suppose you could have exagerated the colors a bit more to make them pop, but ya know, the cool thing is you made it beliveable.
Wonderful job Domi. Glad you had fun with it. This place is a zoo.
Domi:
i agree with Mike here, i think the faded look makes this one work really well.
c’est magnifique !
Mike:
i’m working on the pink Panther ausf. G tonite,if i can get my work done early enough but i still haven’t decided whether to go for a more realistic look or indulge my whimsical side for the finish. realistic would be either faded pink or possibly pink w/ brown stripes… whimsical would be either a pucci pattern or a tuner car type of finish ( i wonder what a Panther would look like with a carbon fiber wing ?) i’m leaning towards the pucci pattern, but if u guys want to see something more cat-like, here’s the chance to sound off ! and now that i have a digicam, i’m trying to learn how to take decent pix of 1/72 and 1/76 afvs…
but pix r coming, i promise !
the Panther should look good next to the Barbie boat, too ![;)]
frosty [:)]
Thank you for your nice comments, guys (and doll)… It’s much appreciated. I still think it looks a bit too faded… Mike’s Tiger does not look that way yet it’s still ‘believable’ and no doubt, had the war gone the wrong way for the Allies, one may have seen German tankers taking such liberties with the regulation schemes… My hat off to you again, Mike! And thanks for giving us great ideas!
