Spitfire pair

This is my latest project that i have just finished which incorporated lots of firsts for me. Id never built a resin kit before, id never used an airbraush before and id never used Pro modellers wash for the weathering. Generaly i am pleased with these models apart from the canopys, there was no framing moulded in.

First off Spitfire PS888:

And now Spitfire PS915 as she flys with the Battle of Britain memorial flight.

Just to comlicate things PS888 was the aircraft that carried out the last operational Spitfire shortie. PS915 now flys with the BBMF in the markings of PS888 on her last mission.

Nice work Ollie, for all those firsts, i think you did very well. Did you put a clear coat down between the top coat and the weathering wash? If you try using promodeller stuff on a matt finish, it gives a stained effect which it looks like you have in a couple of shots.

Keep the builds coming and posting the pics.

…Guy

The model was painted and the decals applied before a coat of future applied. After that i then applied the wash and once that was done they have have a mat coat.

Smart looking pair of Spits you have there ollie! Have always been a fan of the Griffon Spits, with their five blade props and lean lines. [tup]

Nice work, Ollie.

Hi Ollie,

generally not bad, but doing the frames on vac-form canopies is never easy. I like to use strips of clear decal, painted in the appropriate colour. You usually need to use lots of Microsol and Microset, and to seal in the frames with Future, but with patience, it can work out quite well.

The framing on the vac canopy on this Airfix 1/48 Hurricane was done with strips of clear decal, sprayed RAF Dark Green with the sharply-curved bits touched in with a fine brush:

Cheers,

Chris.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will give that a go sometime and post the results. I guess ive not done it before as i have not felt brave enough.
