[:)] Hi everyone! I hope I find all of you happy and well. I managed to get a few hours to myself this week and actually do some modelling!
Here’s my 1/48 Hasegawa MkVIII Spitfire, this is a clipped wing variant that flew with RAF No. 145 Sqn out of Canne, Italy in 1943.
This was a lovely kit to build in a scheme that I particually like[^] I’m hoping that my painting is improving with my new airbrush[:I].
Hope you guys like it.
Thanks for you comments guys! It’s great to be able to share my model with you.
Waikong, for the faded look, try a couple of drops of white to your camo colour and test it out on some scrap paper. Then keep adding drops of white until you have the colour shade that you like.
Hope this helps,
Really like the weathering. Not under stated nor over done. Fine looking model. I almost bought one two weeks ago ,but opted for a second TA154 kit instead.[banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead]
Very nice build, nice work on the painting & weathering. This kit has been bad-mouthed in much of the modeling press for being on the short side, but it sure looks like a Spit to me.
many thanks for your kind words! I have to admit I’m a lot happier with this build than I have been of others, I usually do too much or too little weathering! I’m still learning, but it’s made me very happy to read that you guys like what I’ve done.
Hiya Darren,
OOOOOooo, very nice indeed. So how is this kit to put together?? I did their Mk IX and around the wing fuselage area, the fit was not the greatest. I had to do a little sanding and fillen[:(]
Over all build was great except for that area…!!! Did you have the same problem??
What did you use to simulate the sand?? Thanks for sharing!!
Guys,
I’m really knocked out by your comments[:I] Thanks for letting me share my model with all of you[:)]
Mark,
apart from fading the paint a little the rest of the weathering was done with my usual wash of black/grey watercolour. This was applied over a good gloss coat, one section at a time, wiping on and wiping off the wash until it “looked right”. It can be tedious to do it like this, but it works for me[:)]
Mike,
I found the wing roots on my kit to be OK, my problem was the seam on top of the airframe, I had to be careful not to lose any detail when sanding it away, it was quite prominent, I did use a little PVA to fill some small gaps here and there, apart from that, no other build problems.
The sand for the base, was wet PVA with bits of fine sawdust spread onto it, when it dried, I just sprayed on a sandstone colour and varnished the edge of the base.[;)]
Hiya Darren,
I almost forgot about the seam at the top of the fuselage. I guess I was more worried about the wings than anything else…[:(][B)][;)]
Thanks for the update my friend.
Flaps up, Mike
