Guys,
I am looking for 1/48and/or 1/32 scale plan drawings in all views and including cross-sections.
Any ideas as to how I’d get them or where?

Aero Detail #8 has quite nice plans, unfortunately - in 72nd scale. And as far as I know, probably one the best book on spitfires is from “Scale Aviation Modeller International from England” in two volumes - Merline and Griffon engined Spitfires. It features detailed drawings in 48nd scale (I had a chance only to sneak peek at it, so I don’t remember - how well it is detailed). Search in Squadron HP - they have lots of books on Spitfire. I think, there are some sources over the internet, where You can find scanned drawings, but it is highly possible, that they will be distorted and after many tries You’ll probably end up with out of scale prints. IMHO buying the book is better solution, although good books (e.g. mentioned above “SAM Intl’s” issue) sometimes cost a lot, they are worth it.
once you know the scale you can always reduce / enlarge …
the thing is to get good scale refs…

Be careful with the Spitfire drawings. The only correct Spitfire drawings are in “Spitfire-The Canadians” by Robert Bracken and they were done by A.R. Clint.
The Aero Detail book and the SAM book both have bogus drawings. What Mark of Spitfire are you after drawings of?

Dear Bob Swaddling
I am looking for the Seafire and the MkIX, hoping to get lucky and use it as drawing refernce for a Mk9 two seat trainer. I am an artist as well as a modeller and would like to draw some pictures of the Irish Air Corps two seat trainers.
Scale plans would be a huge help.
And I ordered the damn SAM book too!
How bad are the drawings?

No problems, moonwoka. I am sure there must be value with the history side of it and hopefully the in-accuracies will be small and few.

Well, I have been doing this with Blenheim plans and it seems, that drawings are distorted, because I got different scales when measured horizontaly and verticaly. I think this was scanning problem. Besides it is damn hard to calculate exact coefficient. Anyways, that’s only my opinion [:I]

Which Seafire ? What would any Seafire have in common with the T9? Are you after drawings of the T9?
The SAM book is OK but be careful of the drawings. They have a Mk IXc and a MkIXe below it and they are two different fuselage lengths. The side profile B&W drawings of all the various Marks are way off in many places and are misleading. The colour profiles are inaccurate in places but not as bad as the B&W. The captions to the colour photos have a few mistakes and the written text only has a couple mistakes, the worst being about the radiators. Check it out. Drawings of the T9 are rare and there are a lot of changes to be made to a IX to get a T9 looking right. I have a buddy writing a book about the T9 Spitfire.
