Hi again all,
I enjoyed building my 1/72 scale Hasegawa D-Day Spitfire MkIX so much I thought I would build Tamiya’s Spitfire Mk V Trop with US markings. I’m using the Aeromaster "US Spitfires - Africa & Italy sheet. This Tamiya 1/72 Spit Vc will be that of 307th FS (with Shark Mouth). I’m building it OOB.
I’m about half way through the painting and weathering phase right now. Let me know what you think! [:)]

Happy modeling all!

GREAT JOB. I am building A SPITFIRE V TROP in US markings using the 1/32 scale HASEGAWA kit. I am only at the rescribing the panel lines stage BUT your photos have inspired me to finish soon and get some color on my SPITFIRE. Thank You.
Thanks guys…be sure to post some pics of your big bird Phantomguy! A little inspiration goes a long way…glad to help!

awesome so far. really looks good. it looks like you couldnt wait to take the pics (paint on the backdrop) it sounds very familiar.

Hi!
It looks very good…I had build one from Airfix in 1/48th scale…my only complaint was the aft bottom wing joint (a pain!!!) but everything else was ok…used RAF markings, though. I did the pattern by hand; I also did a Hurrcane MK IIC in same camo but airbrushed it…looks better.
Coming along very nicely. The Tamiya kit is a little jewel. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks guys…what, you don’t like my custom background Joe! [8D] I was too lazy to set up lighting or put a nice backdrop in for the photo. I usually don’t though for the in-progress pics but I guess at least a clean paper towel would be better!

The spit looks very nice. How are you doing the wheathering? Did you pre-shade or some other method?
Thanks Daniel…I preshaded the kit before paint. I use a very sharp artist’s pastel pencil to bring out the panel lines a bit. Then I post shade the kit (not yet done) very lightly…it is easy to over-do this. I use a silver artist’s pastel pencil to add paint chipping and varying shades of brown pastels for some weathering.
Hope that helps…I’ll post some more pics as I progress on this build.
Happy modeling
Joe
I build that exact same kit a while back. I haven’t taken photos of it since it’s been finished but I think it look pretty good. I used the kit decals though, not US markings. Your build looks great Joe! Great little kit isn’t it?
Thanks Maddafinga…it is a great little build and is taking shape nicely. I just added the stubs for the uninstalled wing cannons of the Mk Vc. Wheels are painted and installed as are the exhaust stubs.
Post a pic of your bird when you get a chance…I’ll update my progress photos tommorrow.
