Ive read the few post out there about this plane but am curious as to what color best represents the gray/silver for the wings and fuse. The nose is brighter so Im guessing an alclad of polished aluminum would look about right. I have floquil old silver but I think its too shiny, Used it on my B17 for the fabric covered control surfaces and it was too shiny.
Any thoughts?
Try Testors Silver Argent #1146 enamel. I used it on my Hughes H1 Racer, looked great in combo with the BMF fuselage.
Thanks, do you have any pics of your hughes racer?
When I built mine, I painted the whole thing Tamiya Aluminum, then put the decals on the nose and painted the spinner alclad aluminum with chrome prop blades. Here’s a picture:

I use Testors Aluminum enamel tinted with light grey or white to get a silver dope look. Here is a Hughes HK-1 I did that way.
What kind of ratio did you use with the grey or white?
I just do it by eye, it doesn’t take much A few drops in the paint cup on my Badger 150 airbrush, which is about 1/3 full of the silver or aluminum enamel. I just spray a little on a test surface and see if it looks right for silver dope which has oxidized a little. Dope will oxidize a lot faster than lacquer or enamel will on the 1:1 scale models. Too bright of a silver or enamel color just looks wrong to my eye on fabric surfaces, probably because in the past I spent a lot of time around them.
