Went to see the Flying Legends show. Awesome. Totally inspiring. Loads of higlights, but where to begin? Standing in the blister of a PBY-5, crawling through the B-17 Sally B, and holding the machine guns. Sitting in the cockpit of a Spitfire, a fully authentic replica of K5054, feeling how smooth the controls were. 4 P-51s buzzing the field. A Bearcat doing things I never thought a piston engined plane could do. But surely the highlight was 10 spitfires, 2 Mk XIVs and a Mk XVIII chasing each other and diving, while 7 Merlin engined Spits danced and broke behind them, all against a black sky, with the sun glinting off them from another direction.
I even found time to pick up 6 models. I feel inspired. All in all, what a brilliant weekend.
One of these days I will make it to Duxford. My fiancee has already promised me that trip in the near future. Till then I want to see some pics.[:P][:P][:P]
Duxford is definitely a must see. I remember them well. My ex-brother in law was a member of the RAF Falcons parachute team so we always got inside the wire and usually a ride with them on the Herky bird they jumped from. If you don’t get airsick on one of them you never will.A real shake rattle and roll. Also the one where the Vulcan and then Concorde did a low,low blast of the runway.
I am heading over there again in september for the BoB show.
I hope it’s as good as last year !
Also heading to a reunion over the same weekend - we get to play on a C17 -ooooh!
No piccies from me, unfortunately. We borrowed my girlfriend’s dad’s digital camera, and it kept konking out after 2 shots. There might be a few shots of the B-25s and the Stangs, and maybe the Griffon Spits, as I recall, but mainly it was disappointing. I tend to lose myself in moments anyway, and forget to take pics. Ie when I was in the B-17, I felt I got more out of it by imagining myself in this shell being rocked by flak, rather than snapping everything in sight. I’m quite childish like that, but I think I get more out of the experience.
Still, I hope the one of me in the Spit giving V for Victory came out…[8D]
