I built a Revell 1/48 F4U-4 Corsair a few years ago, it was my first time doing a “digital” camo (though it didn’t look very convincing). My dad loved it, he loves Corsairs, and he loved the camo. Though, being a retired Marine he wanted me to do another one in woodland MARPAT. So I set off and started building it awhile ago, it got sidelined, no with some time that I have to wait for my current projects, I’ve moved this one up and trying to complete it before classes start back up.

As you can see I still have more sanding to do on the bottom, and probably more on the top side. It’s completely smooth but it’ll most likely still show up through the paint [:@] [:@]
As to the markings…I’ve asked my dad and he’s given me pretty much free roam, as long as a make it a Marine Corps bird…so I’ve come up with two routes both of which he’s fine with.
There’s the route where the markings stand out and pop, which both him and I think looks cool with the markings in Marine Corps scarlet and gold…
Or there’s the other route, where the markings are low vis and will be put on like name tags on an actual Marine Corps uniform… As to the ID number…I wasn’t sure what I was going to put on, but then I thought since he’s a retired Master Guns, I’d do E-9. Another thing I’m thinking is of puting a sharks mouth from a P-40 onto this thing to give it that extra mean look. Not sure how thats gonna turn out yet though.

Since I think sometime in the 70’s maybe 80’s serial number (I don’t know the proper name for them) have been the person’s social security number so it’d be a little to personal
I think I’m just going to do E-9, he seemed to like that idea the most when I was throwing out possibilities, also we’ve decided on doing the black markings like on uniforms.
Then I spent a couple hours masking where I want the brown to stay…I reckon I’m a little over halfway done…I’ve already gotten a lot better since my first digital MiG.
Nobody’s been commenting on this so I figured I’d skip a few steps before posting another update. Here it is, all the painting is done. The tan “spots” are where the markings are going to go, since they’re going to be black I didn’t want them to get “lost”. That’s also how it looks on the name tags on the actual uniforms, no black except for the name.
I finalized the markings with my dad. The left wing is going to be the Eagle Globe and Anchor. the right wing is going to be the plane ID… E-9. and on both sides of the fuselage MARINES.
Tomorrow I’ll peel all the masking off to unveil what’s underneath.
Thanks guys…sadly when I brushed the tan and black on it loosen up alot of the tape so it bleed under and ruined the paint job…I am going to strip the paint and start over.
