I’M CONSIDERING BUILDING A MODEL OF U-47 TYPE IIB. THIS SPECIAL NAVY KIT LOOKS LIKE IT COULD WORK WITH SOME MODS APPLIED. HAS ANYONE ANY FIRST HAND INFO ON THIS KIT, OR MAYBE SEEN A KIT REVIEW?
MANY THANKS…SPUDS 1

Are you talking about Gunter Prien’s U-47?
If so, it was a Type VIIB, not a IIB. Type IIs were vastly different from a Type VII. You can’t get there (easily) from here.
I think I saw a review of the Special Navy type II over on the Model Shipwrights website. Looked like an excellent model, if a bit pricey… But of course, if you want to do U-47, that was a much larger Type VIIC, and the best bet is the Revell version in 1/72…
YEP, YOU’RE RIGHT, EGG ON MY FACE. MY RESEARCH REVEALED THAT LAST NIGHT. i WAS CONSIDERING DOING PRIEN’S BOAT. I HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE VIIB & VIIC. I’VE FOUND SEVERAL WEB SITES ON U-BOATS ATLANTIC, BUT NO INFO AS I WRITE THIS, THAT SHOWS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE B & C VERSIONS.
MANY THANKS FOR THE FEED BACK…CHEERS…SPUDS 1
Go to Uboat.net
IIRC, there are some minor dimension issues
The quickest & simplest difference I’ve found between the basic -B and the basic -C (before the additional guns & expanded wintergarten) is that the aft edge of the conning tower slants forward (top to bottom) on the -B while it slants aft on the -C. Otherwise the conning tower layouts were similar
Many thanks for your help. Did you or anyone you might know use the Wintergarden Set for the “early” version? I did review the after market product & the model& kit review of the VIIc, looks like a good kit when completed.
