Special Hobby Fa.223 Drache

This is the Special Hobby 1/48 Fa.223 Drache and it is a real pig of a kit. Several fit issues, instructions were poor, many parts were simply the wrong size and had to be remanufactured but after months of sitting on my workbench taunting me it is complete. It ended up being a real tail sitter and there is no where in the nose to place counterweight but it will hang from the ceiling so no worries there. So for your consideration here is the Luftwaffe’s heavy lifting helicopter.

Vert nice job on that unusual subject, it looks great.

Beautiful. I have heard that kit was a handful.

LOL, hey Swanny, maybe its to perfect scale…and thats how they had to build 'em [8D]

Love the Glass house work!

Top notch, Swanny! You are the King of Unusual Subjects. I always love seeing what flies out of your workshop. Way to stick with it on this one!

Very nicely done Matt [tup].

Beautiful work Matt, that glaas house came out very nicely and really shows off the work you put into the office. [tup][tup][tup]

[#ditto] Well done! [tup]

Thanks guys.

Look at the green house on the front of that thing! great work. I bet getting all that stuff lined up was a pain. Looks excellent.

I’ll say it again, but that cockpit and greenhouse nose look great. I have never heard of that helicopter, but it looks cool. Great job

Amazing work on the cockpit!!!

Simply awesome work as usuall Swanny. Love the glasshouse. Makes you want to do a 111 as an easy build.

Interesting build, Matt, and well done as usual. The glass work is quite the sight.

Thanks guys, that glass was one of the big hold-ups with this kit. Not only did it take forever to mask but there was a 2mm step that had to be resolved.

Here’s a before and after on that part …

When I was stripping off the masking tape I was amazed at the size of the pile of old tape that was accumulating on the desk.

Matt- I see what you mean with the fit on that nose! Looks bloody awful but you make it look easy. Looks like you should have bought stock in Tamiya tape before starting that build LOL…

HI Great job on a really difficult model. Looks Fantastic.
