Special Forces Hummer

Hi all,

What variant of hummer do the US Special Forces use in Iraq. What major differances between other variants… Also what company makes one of the correct variant. Any fit or other problems with the kit if there is one…

TIA

Best Hummer kit on market now are new Tamiya ones, M1025 (hard shell weapons carrier) and M966 (hard shell w/TOW missle), Academy HMMWVs are a very close second. As far as SF, they use a 4-door hard top with the sloped back part removed and rails like the troop carrier installed with a coouple of weapons mounts on the rails and a large extended step bumper on the rear. Here is a model someone displayed here a while back of this version. and here is the thread:

You have to by an aftermarket resin set to convert a Hummer model to this version. I can’t recall who makes the set but it’s very pricey from waht i recall.[8)]

heres some photos of Spec Opps Humvees

This would be an easy conversion with minimal effort. All you need to do is cut the hardtop where the rear begins to slope and make a new C pillar to support the roof. The rear rails are simple uprights with slat boards between them. The rear step bumper is also not difficut. I am planning on starting one soon.

And a better view of them when they were used in Afghanistan

sorry for posting all of them up here, they are all spead out

Uh, none of the pics are working, Cavey.lol

[“Cavey” as in Capt. Caveman’s nickname on the cartoon.]

they work for me[:D][:D]

I think that the Hummers that the SF used during OIF were just modifications of the existing humvee variants. Right now they’re manufacturing Hummers specifically for SF use. Check this out.

The hummer that I used in my diorama was an Italeri kit modified with a bit of scratch building from the reference pictures that Captain Caveman showed.[:D]

Hey Moose15,
Heres my email my friend, Falcon174th@aol.com Just give me a shout and of course your e mail. I have a few pix of my friends Hummer who is w/ the 5th SF unit and is currently in Iraq.
I’m sure these can help ya out.

Hey MGM,
As of date, I am not aware of any AM items that can be used to convert a HMMWV into a SF variant. I know there is AM accessories that can be used to update w/ equipment/storage and the like.
You may be right but it also could not be widely advertised as well. O’well I’ll have a look see.
My next build will be of my friends SF Hummer and I plan on basically scratch building most of the major parts/accessories by using the line of Evergreen stock sheet, angle iron, channels and rods.
Hopefully soon I’ll post my latest pix of my HMMWv w/ a motorbike mount on the rear end.
Flaps up, Mike
