I am sure everyone who posts here has one, my question is, What do you use? Just looking for ideas to keep it organized and neat, if thats possible![}:)]
Mine is a great big rubber made tub … enough in there to build porbably 10 or 12 models.
Organized … hahahhahahahahhahhhaaa
Just an old cardboard box, but everything is divided into big ziplock bags. Engines in one, missles in another…etc. I have been kicking around the idea of getting some of those clear drawers in a gray plastic case. The kind that you would put nuts and bolts in.
Big box for me too. I do keep brass and PE in a zip lock bag and a big zip lock for the decals, an old model box for resin goodies and a box for figures but all the old plastic goes into a mass grave to be resurrected on demand.
Nice site you have htere swanny, alot of good info.
Thanks Miller
I have everything seperated into old model boxes. Everything is broken down, such as, radar, air to air missiles; IR, air to air missiles; cockpit components; pylons, launchers, MER’s and TER’s; air to ground conventional; air to ground smart; droptanks; engine components; just to name a few. That way I don’t have to search through a ton of parts just to find a set of Sidewinders. They are easy to store too.
I use an old vcr tape organizer, it’s the perfect size, fits under my desk and I can divide everything into smaller boxes or bags
I use the organizers you get in the Tools section of any Sears or hardware store. The ones with the little plastic drawers and there are like 30 drawers. I have figures in one, many misc…sandpaper in one, toothpicks, small tools, etc-- so my spare box is also my organizer in a sense…the bigger drawers even have my paints in there. I recently bought those small, circular, multi-colored labels and have since color-coded them and written the color on top so that I don’t have to take each and every bottle out looking for the color I need…enamels get green “dots” and acrylics get yellow “dots”…I should credit my wife with this idea
I use one of those big matchboxes(most of my spares are landing gear, as I always model my aircraft gears-up!), I just stuff it in there and forget about it. I don’t think I’ll ever need those spares, anyway…
I build only WW II aircraft in 1/48, so mine are separated by country. I use large kit boxes (DML Mistel for Luftwaffe, ProModeler Catalina for U.S., etc.) They fit on the shelves with the unbuilt kit boxes, so I always know where to look, & they don’t clutter my small bench.
Let’s see…I have tons of spares packed into the following great boxes that I just couldn’t bear to part with:
MPC Millennium Falcon (original 1977 issue)
MPC R2D2 (original 1977 issue) (just decals)
MPC C3P0 (original 1977 issue) (just figures)
Tamiya 1/25 Tiger I (X 2)
Tamiya 1/25 Centurion
Tamiya 1/35 M-41 (I just love that box art!)
Dragon 1/35 E-100
I don’t have a spares box so to speak. What I do is put my extra or spare parts on the original boxes that they come in with. Example I have ten spare road wheels of M4A4 from my Dragon M4A4 then I just put them in a small clear plastic bag and place them in the box. This way I will know exactly what kind of parts these are. So I don’t throw away the original kit boxes but pile them up neatly with the corresponding spares inside.
I have a tackle box with all of my spares, tools, sand papers, brushes, misc items all in it. Since I don’t have a permanent modeling area as of yet it makes it convienant to have everything mobile. Now if I can just get my building done, life would be great.
Hi i use some plastic cases which come in verious sizes from a4 to smaller sizes they are just perfect for tools ,decals , and just about anything also they fit just perfect on top of anyones workbench, they come in 3, 4 5 or even 6 and 8 shelves each wich their uses are endless, all thanks to my wife for her advice and help shes now very very intersting in models herself now.
hope this helps

Sean as you will find out , we are a rare breed around here having wives that get into plastic ( well they all get into that other plastic) and get to build with them.
Tool box, parts bin, old kit boxes, ziplok bags; whatever inexpensive storage unit is available!
I have over 500 molds plus masters and I have them separated down to category IE wheels, SBC engine stuff and Hemi stuff in Rubbermaid lidded boxes. (helps keep sealed from air.
I find the fishing tackle boxes are very handy - lots of compartments and different trays for lots of stuff.
I’ve got several boxes for specific types of models - autos, aircraft, armour, and bikes.
Cheers

I also use a fishing tackle box. It’s the best. Holds small tools also. Easy to carry. Not good when mixed with live bait, though.
