After an unsuccessful attempt at using MK’s to replace the tracks my Tasca Sherman 76, I am wondering if i can still use some links to be used as “armor” on the tank. I know that the Brits often laid out dozens of tracks on their tanks to be used as armor, but did US tankers do too? Im not talking about completely covering the tank- just mayber a few runs of four or five links. Also, how were they affixed? were the welded on?
Yes i have seen many photos of US tanks with track links fixed to them. I have seen from just a few rows all the way to covering the entire front and down the sides. It looked as if they had fabricated small brackets welded onto the tank and the tracks fit on or within the brackets, some had rails welded on the tank to hold everything. I have seen some that looked as if they were just laying on the tank with sandbags, crates and other items all laying on top of each other and sometimes all lashed down with wire or rope. Spare road wheels was anouther common feature you saw on the front of the tanks with links of tracks
