Guys, I’ve noticed that most if not all soviet built aircraft have green wheels…including the Mig-29 I’m currently building. A quick bit of research shows that the Mig-21 and SU-27 have the same color. For whatever reason, no matter what the strut or other components are, the wheels always stay green. Anyone know what this color is? An FS number or eqivilent perhaps? For that matter, why do they not paint over this green? Thanks.
Dana
From memory ( not always the best!) it’s somewhere near Humbrol # 102 matt army green, sorry I can’t find an FS number. As to why, maybe all aviation wheels were produced in the same factory. Or’ given Soviet thinking, it’s always worked before, why change it?. Have you seen the colour they use on instrument panels? That is also used on most of their aircraft, it’s horrible, much more glaring than light grey or black. Why use that one? I have no idea!

H38… for gunze colours according to hasegawa instructions
FS34226 according to Academy MiG 29 instructions(Dark Green)… Hope this lil info helps…
Cheers,

Thanks guys.
Let me ask another question of you guys. For years, I’ve used almost stricky Testors MM paints since most hobby shops carry them. Are the other brand of paints commonly used (Humbrol, Gunze, etc) avaliable at places other than hobby shops? Craft stores perhaps? Thanks again.

didn’t Aeromaster produce a Russian wheel green a few years back? out of production, but I think I have a bottle of it somewhere.
found it…1268 Radome/Hub green. Aeromaster Warbirds color. I have an full unopened bottle
Wait…do I see a Queensryche fan in our midst? “Revolution calling” from " Operation: Mindcrime"

I used a color from Testors Model Master acrylic line called “Russian Armor Green” for the hubs on a MiG-21. By all photos I’ve seen of MiG-21 wheels, this color is very close if not dead on.
It should still be in the Model Master line as it was only a few years ago that I bought it.
yup. fan of queensryche here. Dana, if you would like this unopened bottle of soviet wheel green, shoot me an e-mail with particulars to gwitness@yahoo.com
