I recently bought a kit of this WW1 era biplane. I have some nice piano wire to build the rigging with its just that I have lost my nerve. I don’t feel up to doing it right. Anyone ever have this happen?
SOmetimes, just box it for now and build a simple shake n bake kit to get the building mojo back.

Rigging is like any other unpleasant task–the longer you put it off, the more forbidding a job it seems. My advice would be to start with a portion that’s small-scale and, ideally, correctable (if everything goes pear-shaped). Once you’ve got a little bit knocked out to your satisfaction, the rest won’t seem so scary.
Buy the rigging material from Wing Nut Wings themselves, they have elastic thread material that they recommend. Music wire would be very difficult, leave that to the Harry Woodman types!
When I built my Sopwith Pup I had a bit of the same fear. I started with the main wings. The lines are longer and used EZ-line. After the fun of doing the interior rigging the exterior was a lot easier. Have a look at my build or the Group Build to get some inspiration. It has been said its best to put the kit back in the box and do something else. Agreed, its better to wait than to buggar up a kit. Also, As has been said piano wire is a tough nut to crack even for an experienced modeler. Agreed again. Honestly 1 lbs fishing line is a good start for most smaller scales or 8-9ml invisible / smoke colourd sewing thread, (sewing centers in Walmart or such dept store) for 1:48 and up. The double wires can be a trick to get parallel in all positions.
Save the good kits and practice on the cheaper ones. There are some fine tutorials on the subject of rigging in scale. Do a little hunting and viola! Finally don’t let inexperience hold you back. Rigging is little more than patience and repetition. But the result is far more pleasing than not rigging. You can do this. Here is a Camel & a Bristol I did.
