Well, sort of. I’m working on Tamiya’s M20 and was waiting for various bits and pieces to dry between coats and I looked over at this guy, a 23mm (or 25mm) Games Workshop Orc Musician I picked up years ago.
First metal minature, first fantasy figure. He’s about 80% complete at current. Some highlighting, drybrushing, sealing, and a base other than the crappy plastic one included are still needed.
That’s pretty cool. I like the green for the skin, is that just something you had or is it a specialty fantasy color? Armor looks very nice too, what paint did you use there?
An idea for the base: the top from a small jar of some kind. Initially I thought of a water bottle, but that may be too small. Maybe a Gatorade bottle or something like that. Cover it with spackle, mold some detail into it, paint, then cover with ground work of your taste. I’ve used this type of base before, they are quick and easy and look pretty good without having to put much effort into them.
I spent the $$ and picked up a “starter set” from Citadel with 10 paints. Goblin Green for the skin, Mithril Silver is drybrushed over the chain mail that was undercoated with generic flat black. Snakebite Leather for the leather padding, with some Tamiya Buff for the drum head.
All washed with a black ink/burnt sienna wash mix. I still have the leather bands on the drumstick “head” (It’s a skull) to paint, and then finish him up.
I like the idea of using a larger bottle lid for a base. I have a couple of pieces of wood from a home project that could be used as well if I cut the crown off it. I think it’s 3 inches high by 1/12 inches square.
Yeah, after looking at the link, I think his stick is bent…I’ll try to reshape it using some pliers and brute force…
What I like about this is the same thing I DON’T like about it. There aren’t any instructions, or box art. This is the new version of the same guys I have (mine are stamped 1997 on the bottom):
The scale, as Games Workshop themselves say, is 28mm, or 1/56th.
Then again, these are meant for tabletop gaming, which means alot of moving of them and such. Therefore they are made thicker, and may look slightly bigger. Just as a Warhammer soldier is bigger than a Tamiya 1/48 soldier, yet the scale says the Tamiya one is bigger.
Looks really good Matt. I tend to do the same thing, get kind of burnt out on a long build or waiting on paint and I get some of these fellers out. So far only orcs but I also have some Empire and some 40K Imperial Guard.
