Something new and different?

Here’s a link http://www.pressrepublican.com/homepage/local_story_078135712.html?keyword=topstory to a story that may remind some of you of the past, especially some of you who were stationed at Plattsburgh AFB, or those who remember the “Bob Cummings Show” of the 60’s…

Not quite George Jetson, but very cool indeed!

That “airplane-car” convertible concept has been tested and profured several times over the years and never seems to take off, pardon the pun. I can’t imagine the average commuter paying nearly $200K for home to work transportation and it is a mighty expensive “toy”.

Darwin, O.F. [alien]

Sweet. How many bombs does it carry? He, he, he…

There’s a Brazilian firm that has a similar airplane in development too.

I can’t argue that a bit, when I imagine you could probably buy a decent used Cessna 172 and a decent used car for that kind of money…weren’t you at Plattsburgh during your career, Darwin? I was born and raised in Saranac Lake, about 50 miles west of there…

This is probably the best reason AGAINST easily accessable flying cars I’ve heard.

-Think of all the bad drivers on the road right now. Think of all the bad drivers in a big city like San Francisco. Now imagine them all in the air at once.

Scary, huh?

Scary and true. [(-D]

Still, a very cool concept vehicle. Lightweight composites, along with the new Light Sport certification category, went a long way towards making an aircraft like this possible. In the past, making a vehicle legal for both air and road use was very, very difficult. As for practical, well… they may never solve that one.

Thanks for posting, Brian. [8D]

[:O] That’s ALMOST enough to make me stop flying myself.

Aw… where’s your sense of adventure!? HA!

It’d be neat to see a comprehensive gallery of all known types car/airplanes that have surfaced throughout the years along with these new ones.

I actually ran across something like that this week, while reading about this new vehicle. I’ll see if I can find it again…
