That “airplane-car” convertible concept has been tested and profured several times over the years and never seems to take off, pardon the pun. I can’t imagine the average commuter paying nearly $200K for home to work transportation and it is a mighty expensive “toy”.
I can’t argue that a bit, when I imagine you could probably buy a decent used Cessna 172 and a decent used car for that kind of money…weren’t you at Plattsburgh during your career, Darwin? I was born and raised in Saranac Lake, about 50 miles west of there…
This is probably the best reason AGAINST easily accessable flying cars I’ve heard.
-Think of all the bad drivers on the road right now. Think of all the bad drivers in a big city like San Francisco. Now imagine them all in the air at once.
Still, a very cool concept vehicle. Lightweight composites, along with the new Light Sport certification category, went a long way towards making an aircraft like this possible. In the past, making a vehicle legal for both air and road use was very, very difficult. As for practical, well… they may never solve that one.
