This is Rev/ger 104-G done up in Norwegian markings. I couldn’t find any decals for a G version nmf Starfighter except these. So here she is, something different. I hope you like it.

Of all the planes I have ever seen, the F104 was the most memorable!
I saw two of them fly at Mac Dill in St.Petersburg, Florida. The “man in the missile” was the most amazing thing I have ever seen at an airshow. The F-104 has little blue rings of fire behind it, and the noise is like a grinder on steel… just awful [:p]
Nice build, great pics!
Wooooah…
Something different indeed, but beyond that, something to be VERY proud of too! [:)]
You done one HECK of a job on it, and thank you for letting us see!
Take care,
Frank
Great looking build. The NMF is very nicely done. Thanks for sharing.
Regards, Rick
very nice ! great finish ! take it easy Peter !
Awsome job on that one!!!
Looks like it’s ready to scramble.
What did you use for the nmf??
mkhoot
The nmf is bare metal foil, panel by panel. OUCH!!!

Very nice looking build

Very nice great job on the NMF.
You did a fantastic job on it.I wish I could get a nmf to turn out like that.Looks like I should try the bmf for something other than masking canopies.I have another B-29 in the pile so it might be a good candidate.
Good luck on your next build, this one is perfect!!
You get out of it what you put into it. Your F-104 obviously has a LOT of work put into it and the quality relflects that.

Thanks for the praise, and kind words guys.

Fantastic Job!!! I think Im going to have to add it to my must build list.
That is some of the best foil work I have ever seen. Most foil covered models are obvious in that one can tell that the NMF is foil right off the bat, I must say yours is outstanding, my forst impression was that it was painted. A lot of work is involved here, my hat is off to you my friend…How many sheets did it take?
Steve
I think I used 1 1/2 sheets of matte aluminum but only cause I boogered up alot of panels and had to re-do them. It gets tricky on large and curved panels. Once the foil starts to wrinkle, your screwed. I told myself I would never foil again, because of the good results of Alclad, but then I see a good foil job, and it just looks more realistic to me. Now I’m considering foiling a 1/48 B-58.
I know…I’m sick!

Outstanding Dragonfly!!!
I have never like foil for aircraft I have never seen it done good enough til now… thats amazing.
thanks woodbeck
OK, OK, - Youmust tell us HOW you did that. I have trouble getting the foil off the backing and you have just done a gorgeous job of foiling an aircraft that you can really be proud of. My hat is off to you.
Kurt
It’s certainly no big secret, just alot of patience. First, cut the foil slightly larger than the panel you want to cover, then lift a corner slightly till you can grab it with tweezers. Then slowly peel it off the backing keeping a low angle so it doesn’t curl on you. Move it over the panel and square it up, and press it down in the center with your thumb. Then, take a Q-tip and start burnishing the foil from the center out to the edge. The panel line should now be visable, and just trace around it with a new hobby blade. Then peel off the excess, and you’re ready for the next one. Nuts isn’t it?
good luck,

Great job dragonfly! It gives me more inspiration to finish my F-5A that I have been foiling off and on for the past few weeks. You need a good looking model like that to remind you that it isn’t all wasted time. I started using bmf on my F-5 because I didn’t feel like airbrushing (tough to do in the winter if you don’t have spray booth) but I think waiting until spring and just spraying the whole model would have been faster than this foiling thing. It’s models like your’s that keep me from taking the easy way out. Thanks for the motivation!
