Some T-72 questions...

I have the Dragon T-72M2… well what version of T-72 is that called “Dolly Parton”?.. another thing… where is the coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun?.. my kit has a hole in the canvas cover… is that correct?.. I’ve seen that the Tamiya kit has it in the turret hull, but the Tamiya kit is a T-72M1… in the photos I got the search light (or it is the IR light?) covers the machine gun port and it can’t be seen… well, I want to make this detail in my T-72 as no coaxial machine gun is provided… any help would be appreciated…

dolly parton refers to the additional uparmoring done to the turret of the T-72. I belive the T-72B is what first had the Dolly Parton Armor. Also, T-72M1 only refers to the export versions. the T-72M1 is a modernized version of the T-72M which is the export version of the T-72A. also, the co-axial machine gun does not protrude from the tank in any reference pics I have, so don’t bother scratchbuilding it (IMHO). Hope this helps.

IIRC, in addition the M-84/M-84A (Yugo), Czech T-72M2, Polish PT-91 and the Slovakia T-72M2 Moderna all had the “dolly parton” armor. The T-72B1/T-72M2 had their turret fronts, turret roof armor and driver’s front areas strengthened even more and are known as super dolly partons.
