Some of you may have noticed.....

That I have a “Wingy Thingy” in my signature. To my Armor Brothers and Sisters, I must explain…

A friend at work has had a Hasegawa 1/32 P-51 Mustang kit sitting around his house. He isn’t (or more exactly doesn’t have too much free time to build) He knows that I build and has seen my completed kits on my shelves. So, he asked if I could do it.

“Certainly”, I replied. I would be more than happy. Well, what I know about building aircraft, I could fit into a 1/72 Tiger [;)] I asked many questions in the Aircraft forum and our brothers have helped me out. I have also received many emails with “How To’s” Needless to say, it will be a tough one, with the natural metal finish.

In their honor, I selected an aircraft to put in my sig (and I really like the F-4 Phantom ll) Besides modeling with my Dad, I remember going to the Cleveland Airshow, ages upon ages ago with him. What was the main attraction back then? The Blue Angels when they were flying the F-4’s

Aircraft are cool also. I do a lot of ‘wingie thingie’ models as well as science fiction, boats, ships and cars, etc. I like to build with plastic, wood or what have you, so variety isn’t a bad thing you know!

It’s still fun to pick at the flyboys isn’t it? (They take it all so personally, LOL) When I was flying (way back when ) I always got a kick out of the guys who thought they were better than everybody else just because they could pull back on a joystick and get an airplane off the ground! (Kinda like tank gunners in a way!)

former senior gunner, M60’s.

Nothing wrong with wingy thingy’s.

I agree with Tiger44. I have a model of the Battleship Arizona I will be building sometime.

i built alot of planes awilile ago, but i ran out of shelve space, so i am building a WW2 armour diorama.

I do planes too. Yes, I of all people do planes. I’m on a 1/32 F-105g wild weasel from Trumpeter at the moment. I also have a 1/32 hasagawa p-51d in progress right now. But I have a huge box of about five destroyed tigers and I currently have a DML Tiger II in the works right now, so I’m not completly on the other side.

So… that’s the story you want to go with.

Someone just dropped it on your doorstep. Just like a helpless baby.

I know, you just had to take it in. You couldn’t leave a poor helpless model kit out in the world alone, even if it was an aircraft.

Well … if that’s the story. Compassion is an admirable quality.

I guess it’s okay.

I’m glad you explained it, Eric. Man, I was getting worried. A defector in our midst! Actually I’ve got a lot of targets, too. And more to come all the time. I noticed that modelexpoinc.com has an Accurate Miniatures Yak 1 on sale now for under $12! And Trumpeter is coming out with a bunch of 1/32 stuff this year I’d like to have.

Speaking of Trumpeter, did someone die and leave them a mess of styrene pellets or something? The keep coming out with these HUGE 1/35 armor kits (i.e. the Leopold), and masses of 1/32 wingy thingies! Maybe they were digging and struck a vein of pure styrene! They are definately the “king” of the king sized kits, right now.

Not to worry,

Armor will always be on top of my list.

Hopefully, some of the techniques I’m going to try can be used on my Armor builds. I just hope that, I don’t disappoint with this build. I pulled out an old kit that was started but, I know I will never finish (one of those WalMart Revell kits) to practice on.

Okay, If everyone’s coming of the the…er…cabinet…I may have a few…er…1/72 Me 109s or Fw 180s sitting around…maybe…a…er…P-51 somewhere…not built mind you…in the box for, you know, collectors items, yeah that’s it, collectors items…BUT I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO THE AIRCRAFT FORUM! I SWEAR!
I sense the flood gates are open!

I can see that this thread is going to turn into some demented version of the “Dr Phil Show”

Hey, no big deal.

I grew up modeling and living with wingy thingy’s. My Dad retired from the Airforce after 20 years.

I feel certain that I have seen every B52 every built.

I do still build both. But Armor consumes 99.9% of my build time.
The “Dark-side” definitely rules my building board![:p]

confession is good for the soul.

joe

I too have wingy thingy’s. I have sinned against you!

practically my whole family has been pilots and I love aircraft my favorite one would be the F15 frontline fighter (Eagle) and yes I am a tread head but I also have a flyboy quality. Let me tell u it is the greatest thing flying!!! anyways I to have built some planes. 1 F15, 1 F14, 1 F4, 2 P51’s, 1 P38, 2 B17 (that are no longer with me), 1 Nasa Space shuttle… I believe it is the shuttle Columbia before it blew up, ummm… oya and 1 F18.

PS when I said it was the greates thing flying, I lied. I dont think anything can compare to pushing a lever forward and having 60 tons or more of tank roll forward at ur command =D

Modeler’s addiction meating: (MAA)
my name is t3488g and i was addicted to aircraft, them i ran out of space, so i started armour, it’s hard to stop, and theirs no wings to limit my space…i need help!!!

lol

Hilarious Scott.

I have targets also, only two though. a P-47 and a Ki-84. I bought them for a break from armor, something to clear the head so to speak. Hey, I’m still a history buff and like all military weaponry.

Hey tigerman, we have all got skeleton’s in our closet (and some of us have wingy thingies too). Why even Sherm has admitted to building a German kit or two[:O][:D][:D].

We armour and the aircraft guys have a ‘friendly us vs them’ approach, but all jests aside, we all appreciate fine modelling whatever the subject.

Yea Scott that is funny , and yes he DID sin ! Next time throw in a pic of Tammy Faye Baker crying and dripping a flood of mascara tears down her face ! Now that would be classic ![:D]

This may be in the wrong place but I can’t resist…
‘You know you’re a flyboy if…’
You remove this really cool photo of a truly magnificent Wittmann Tiger you built and replace it with a F4 as your signature![swg]

(remember…I’m jealous I had to settle for the M4)
