soldering basics april 2010

Great article on soldering photoetched parts… but what kind of solder is being used… 50/50 …60/40 …I Know for a fact it’s not that kind but what kind is it… that’s very important information*…*

Michael

Michael,

Thanks for your remarks about the soldering article…I’m glad that it was helpful. I am using just basic Rosin Core solder, the cheap stuff that you can pick-up at most anyplace (ie. Radio Shack, Michaels, etc.). One of the points that I was trying to make in the write-up is that neither the equipment nor the materials need to be fancy, it is only a matter of practice and patience.

Thanks again, and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Rick

Thanks Rick! I noticed that some of the companies that make photo etched products have solder on their web site…Do you supose it’s the same type …How about a how to video of you in action…On Fine Scale website? Rosin core would you use that type on electronic components?

Michael

Michael,

I’m not a solder expert, but my guess is solder is solder…no need to pay for extra packaging for a commodity item.

Thanks for the 'video comment…probably not in the cards right now due to time (or lack thereof). But, you are welcomed to come over to the house and we can sit down together!!!

Don’t burn your fingers.
