well as for mine it closed up many years ago. i have to do all mine online. but for those of you that have a hobby lobby. next time you go in please talk to the manger for me and tell them that savannah ga really needs a hobby lobby

It’s getting bad for the LHS. I live in the far south suburbs of Chicago. In the last several months, 3 area shops have closed. There is an “LHS” over the border in Indiana. Good shop, especially for trains (good for that interest of mine), but the model selection is limited - at any given time, there are maybe 10 1/35th scale kits, a few 1/48th and some 1/72nd.

There is a well stocked shop in Elmhurst… lots of models, paints and a fair reference section. Very, very pricey however. When I’m over that way, I usually stop in a spend a few dollars on something.

I really think we need to curb these off topic posts. This is an ARMOR forum. This post should be General Discussion or Odd’s and End’s.

The last time I was in the shop in Elmhurst I was very disappointed!!! They had moved the models into a much smaller section in what was essentially a back room. It was half the size it used to be with about half the selection. Have you been to the shop in Wheeling lately? It’s almost an hour drive for me so I don’t get there too often, I was just wondering how that shop is faring. They always seemed to have the largest selection in the Chicagoland area.

Thank you for your concern, I’ll take a mental note of it…!![;)]

Check out LaGrange Hobbies in LaGrange IL.They are well stocked and are a lot closer to you than Elmhurst.

[sigh] About 20 Armor kits and of which around 15 are WWII German Armor, considering I only build modern stuff, and there is another hobbyshop within a 150 clicks, and I’m too young for a credit card to order online, or to drive… It’s quite annoying.

He has hundreds of trains though[}:)]…

My LHS has a decent supply of tools and supplies, and of DML and Tamiya kits. Their armour is fairly broadly spread; I didn’t check out ships and aircraft. I also know they do NOT stock aftermarket decals, but do have Micro Krystal Klear, MM and Tamiya acyrlics, and other “basics.”

My LHS has quite a selection of armor models in 1/35 scale along with 1/72.[:D] It’s Ed’s Hobby Warehouse, in Palos Hills, Illinois.[tup][8D] He also has a good selection of planes, autos, and ships, not to mention trains. His tool area and paint section are a little lacking, but I don’t really mind. Because if you want something he doesn’t have in stock, you can order it from him, and he won’t charge you shipping and handling. Thus you actually can save money, instead of buying things off the internet, where you gotta pay shipping and handling.

This is where I do 99% of my modeling purchases.[:)]

I’m blessed with several places to lurk…er…shop. Each has its strong points, so I make the rounds and pick up supplies, mags, bulk plastic (sheet, rod, etc) and once in a while, kits if they’re on sale. All have some selection of armor, lots of floating and flying things and cars and such.

Maybe we should mention the name of our LHS’s – maybe we’ll get a discount next time we’re in!? Mine is Overlea Hobbies in Parkville, MD.

This is Vincent from Hammond LA and Whats In My Local Hobby Shops…??? [(-D] Ok the big one in town is and I know a lot of you have one in your town “Hobby Lobby” Lots of models and tools and some realy good sales, the othere at the end of Hammond is Hammond Hobbies an off shoot of the mane store in Metairie, LA has some military models some good saletions of paint and a heck of a lot of RC stuff. On the price issue, knowing it’s a small busness and alot of the military and nonmilitary models are at a high price. But I must say that the mane store has lots more items at a lower pirce. I hope that this store here gets going and one day will be like the first store.

LMAO

There are four LHS within my area (average of about 10 kms or about 7 miles from my house). These are pretty much well stocked with a wide variety of kits (different brands, genre and scales), tools and paints. They usually have a large section dedicated to armor.

The stocks are basically updated with the recent kit releases so I really don’t need to order online.

I live 10min from Maplewood Hobby,in Maplewood NJ.He has a nice variety of all types of kits, armor, ships, planes, jets, and cars.If he doesn’t have it you can order and it comes pretty fast.Lots of supplies, paints,Mig products, magazines. As a steady customer he is always ready to throw a discount my way,or a free bottle of paint or glue which is much appreciated.Thers are also a lot of guys playing wargames and fantasy games too, like clubs.

I feel sorry for you guys who have to order everything you need to do a project by mail.

I haven’t been to an LHS since I rediscovered Squadron several years ago.

Last time I went to the closest hobby shop (one of the few remaining in Miami area) I found dust and some kits under it, nothing I was looking for, and alot of RC racing stuff. Not to mention the prices for the paint was stabbing my eyes.

RLTW[tup]

OK we here in Houston used to have the perfect hobby shop: Hobby Island. I’m tellin ya, this place had everything. Lots of German stuff, but also tons of modern, US stuff, anything you wanted in AM toys, lots of cars, different scales, a separate section for smaller-market stuff like ships and sci-fi etc, and a library-like reference section.

Of course, it closed a couple of years back (has it been that long?), and now we got nuthin. So it’s all about fighting the online backorder war now.

Not to denegrate any of FSM’s advertisers, especially one of so high standing and good reputation as the Squadron Shop (where I’ve been an on-and-off customer for over 30 years), but unless they are having a durn good sale, you can find much better prices nearly anywhere. Ask here – through PMs if you like – for recommendations.
