We have built most of the kits that inspire us, and we run out of ideas “for the next project”? Or, space limits us… What do you guys do? I’m sort of in that boat now. The only kit that REALLY has me excited is the massive 1/32 b-17 on the horizon. It will be a hanger for sure, but I can’t seem to get excited about anything else… Thoughts?
I find myself looking at kits that wouldn’t have interested me much say a year ago. I build mostly aircraft but I’m just finishing a 1:35 Marine LAV-25. The other day at the hobby store I almost bought a Germany artillery kit that caught my eye. There’s lots out there! 
Build something outside your usual range of expertise. It might open up a whole new area of interest. Some have built “What-Ifs”. It can be anything as long as it seems plausable. Improving on something you have built before but thought that you could make it better. Who knows what you can use out of your scrap parts box. Hope this helps.

We , as modelers suffer the same as writers with writers block .There is a solution though .I go to the LIBRARY and read up on military history and after a day or two I am brimming with new ideas . Try it , You’ll like it ! Tankerbuilder

When I find myself uninspired, I grab something that I wouldn’t normally build and that I don’t know much about and just build it. That usually gets my modeling juices flowing without getting bogged down in the details and research.

Interesting dilemma.
I’m the opposite, my eyes are always bigger than my belly. I have about fifteen ideas percolating in my head for every one that I start. And about five that I start for every one that I actually finish…
Ideas are easy, getting the job done is the hard part IMHO!
I just got out of the same boat you’re in now. For months I waited for the Wingnut Wings D.VII’s to be released, and now that they’re here and I got one, I’m right into it and having a blast doing it. In the time leading up to it, I couldn’t, no matter how hard I tried, push myself into a different project. I’m one of those who can’t just model for the sake of it. If the passion about a subject ain’t there, I ain’t gonna force it, so I busied myself with other projects unrelated to modeling.
Go down scale. 1/32 B-17 is silly IMO.

I don’t know how one can run out of subjects. I Jugs alone, I’ve got stuff I want to build that could keep me going for a decade!
But I do kinda get what you’re getting at.
One thing I’d suggest - instead of looking at “destination” builds, where you’re setting out to build a certain subject, look for a good “journey” build where the subject may not be something you’d normally build, but the kit has an awesome reputation. Building a kit that’s just an awesome kit to build, but outside your normal interests, can be an awesome recharge.
Just did this recently with Eduard’s 1/144 MiG-21MF dual combo. Far outside my traditional scales and subject areas, but they were an absolute blast and a great way to force myself to hone some techniques to deal with the tininess.
Seems we all go through something like this is one form or anther. For me it was a general modeling funk where I didn’t build anything. Out of that now and back to the bench. But never was at a loss for an idea for a project. Heck, i wish I could stop thinking of them[whstl] I agree with Aaron 100%. Build something way off from your usual path. Works wonders.
As far as running out of space, that got taken care of for me. Getting tot he point of little space left yet I could not get myself to thin the herd. My wife and daughter were goofing around and 2 armor pieces paid the price. But it like getting that 1st dent in a new car, don’t need to worry about it any more. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not walking through the room with a bat but some of the really old or poor results builds have been stripped of parts and tossed or held to use as painting test beds.

I usually get inspiration for my next project from reading or the occasional movie. Or the frequent great GBs going on here. GBs and IPMS or AMPS meeting themes are often the source of my new projects most of the time.
