I don’t think it’s so much “I’m going to be unimpressed by the new Star Wars movie” as it is “I am unimpressed with current Hollywood directors and screenwriters”.
I’m not terribly impressed by the current Star Trek films either (not that I was impressed by some of the earlier ones).
I’ll be going to a Friday afternoon screening. We bought tickets online, complete with reserved seating, so minimal fuss with crowds, lines, etc. My expectations? I am not impressed by Mr Abrams work at all so I do not have high expectations. But I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised and seeing if he can pull this off in the range of the original trilogy. But I am not holding my breath. It’s been awhile since a movie that I was excited about was anywhere near expectations.
I still haven’t forgiven the franchise for those %!^&#&! smarmy, talking teddy bears who lived in the trees and saved the Universe. They were just oh-so-ready to be packaged and shipped to toy stores to sit under the tree of every Star Wars geek’s toddlers. The Age of Shameless Movie Product Marketing arrived with those darned things, and I haven’t seen another episode past that disaster and don’t plan to. [|-)]
As big a sci-fi fan as I am, I really didn’t care for either of Abrams Star Trek reboots. However, just glancing through the headlines (not reading any of them to avoid spoilers), its getting good reviews. I do remember Abrams stating in an interview that he purposely used practical visual effects as much as possible to avoid the cheesy everything-CGI look and feel. I’ve got my ticket for Sunday 4 pm. Looking forward to it.
So…as local menus of that cooking style include many items Westerners would not consider eating…I suppose Revenge of the Doog
can include furry creatures of the moon Endor? [:P][::DD0][bgr]
Oh gosh I’d forgotten about that- I thought you meant the ‘Star Wars Christmas Special’ where Han had to get Chewie back for ‘Life Day’ with his wife Malla, son Lumpy, and Grandpa Mangy (or something like that).
Spruce: Dunno, but I bet even Ewok would be good if fried… [:P]
I am definitely looking forward to it. Going this weekend. In a town of 6,000 people there’s not a whole lot of fuss just walking into our theatre. Excellent reviews so far from some of my hardcore friends. And, I personally enjoy the Abram’s Star Trek movies. That is all.
I am glad you said that Joe. I was going to ask if i was the only one who liked the new Star Trek movies.
I am definatly looking forwrad to tomorrow. I have just seen Mark Kermode who does the movie reviews on the BBC new channel, and even he likes the new Star Wars, and i was not expecting that.
OK, I’ll confess, I like the new Star Trek movies too, and I’m looking forward to the new one out next summer.
Back to Star Wars, a local DJ here in Cincy mentioned one of his friends is a big Star Wars nut. But, he’s the kind of guy who will go into a movie and criticize everything. Well, he liked the movie so much, he said it was as good as the Empire Strikes Back.
Sorry, Bish! It’s the holiday season. We’re supposed to be old and crotchety! [;)]
But for your benefit, I’ve heard the movie “doesn’t suck”, and is about as good as “The Empire Strikes Back”. And it doesn’t have “Spitfires” in it. Not a one! [:D] [whstl]
Ewoks. Hurm I remember hating every moment they were on-screen back in the day. I also remember saying WTF? when Vader said he was Luke’s father. IMHO, that’s the moment Star Wars jumped the shark.
I skipped episodes 2 and 3. I’ll probably see this one in a week or so when the hype dies down. And I didn’t like the new Star Trek movie. Never saw the sequel.
